alan ball

Player Valuation: £70m
A Jose Baxter pass into the path of substitute Hallam Hope in the 89th minute who then kept his composure to slot coolly past keeper Jay Lynch and off the post to give Everton the points but were second best in the second half to a very determined Bolton side but were guilty of not doing what mattered and putting away their chances.

The first half was very uneventful although Everton did have the ball in the net midway through the first half as Lynch failed to hold a Baxter free kick and Vellios put home then to be denied by the assistant’s flag.

Vellios was denied with a great save from Lynch only seconds into the second half.

The second half was more of a lively nature as Bolton showed more bite as Everton seemed to ride their luck.
The hosts were attacking down both flanks but the service was let down with the forwards failing to capitalise on their assistance.

Obedayi and Odelusi had opportunities to put the game to bed for the host’s but on the counter Hope punished Bolton late on which came too late for Bolton to respond.

Everton have one more game to play which will bring the curtain down on their season with a trip to Arsenal on the 1st May

where was junior? hes looked fairly decent whenever ive seen him

I forgot to mention that David Moyes was also present so he may be looking at chancing a few of the younger lads towards the end of the season but who knows

AB do you think any of the young guys are ready for a shot with the first team, albeit bench player with a few minor appearance? Thinking along the lines of Baxter, Hope, Silva etc....

(talking aside from the obvious; Barkley, Vellios, Duffy etc....)

Heard that young gun Weir looks real promising for the future

Who played left back?

Looks like 3 centre backs so presumably one of them shifted out wide and i can't remember if browning is left or right.

I went down to watch this too, both teams played good football i thought and tried to keep it on the floor.

Thought our defence was pretty solid, Weir made some superb tackles and one goal saving tackle. Midfield looked comfortable on the ball however Barkley looked increasingly frustrated as the game went on. Baxter played well but was very lazy but great pass for the goal.
The problem was the two strikers, Vellios and Silva. Anybody who is holding any hope that either of these will ever break into the first team and bang the goals in should give up now. They were awful. There were three scouts sitting in front of me from Wigan, Charlton and West Brom and i doubt any of them will go back to look at either of them. Neither of them looked like scoring, their link up play was awful and didn't seem to want to get involved at all.
When Hallam Hope came on he looked lively and tucked his goal away very well.

They had a holding midfielder called Blakeman who looked very good and his passing was at times unbelievable. Spraying 60 yard passes from inside his own half.
