The fact you're not trying to troll, yet your name is notapen.

That's quiet embarrassing
My argument is that it isn't a penalty, and I needed to pick a name to register, so why not?

It's not "quiet" that embarassing, I just wanted some discussion not critique of my name.

oops, spelling mistake. Thanks for pointing it out new friend.

So out of interest who do you support?

I agree Liverpool have gained several, several penalties through diving this season, both Suarez and Sturridge are serial offenders. Suarez is extremely accomplished at conning the referee. However, other team's wrongs don't make this penalty a right.

I don't know enough about Osman to make a for sure judgement but if he truly believed it was a penalty, would he not have been outraged at receiving a yellow? Instead he seemed to just accept it, and there wasn't much appealing from the Everton players (if I remember correctly) which would suggest they didn't believe it was a penalty either.

Anyway, this is my last post. Great season you lot have had, noticed some of you seem to have forgotten that and are having a few knee jerk reactions (understandable), but you're in an excellent position to build and grow. Good luck for next season, should be good.

What a strange little Herbert.

I thought osman was already going down on the replay. At normal speed I was shouting penalty. To be honest it was a pretty good spot, I would be fuming if one was given against us.

just laugh when we try to blame descions by the ref for our loss. we lost because we were [Poor language removed] on the day.

No-one has blamed the referee for the loss. We were denied a very good opportunity to get back into the game due to a terrible decision. As a supporter we can moan about that when you see some of the soft decisions given all season to our rivals.

I understand that and same position soton could have had a pen. just hate when people try to pick key points from a game why we lost when over 90 min shows the reason.

A penalty all day - guy hacked him down. Shame too about Dela's 'offside.' A flat performance - we needed the lift of a goal. Hope we can pick up 3 points from the last two games to be sure of Europe. Wouldn't like to be sweating about needed to win at Hull (Jela and Long are cup tied so miss the FA Cup Final).

But he wouldn't have had made contact if Osman didn't fall over onto his leg. Osman initiated the contact.
Osman went down to reduce the severity of the tackle. He would definitely have been collected by the defender if he hadn't, and possibly had a nice new injury.

I'm curious why you all think it was a penalty. Osman clearly collapses his leg and false into the outstretched leg of the defender, in other words he dives under no contact into the defenders leg. That isn't a penalty, surely? Saying that other referees are consistently fooled by this cheating isn't really a justifiable reason, is it?

And sincerely I'm not attempting to troll, I just want to understand why people think it was a penalty.

You're a beaut u, It was a pen. Still doesn't hide behind our inexplicable display like.

Your attempt to troll, because honestly that's what it is, is unwelcome. Ask yourself whether you would have had this same condescending demeanor and even asked the question if you weren't above us let alone almost guaranteed the league.

We weren't good enough on the day and neither were the officials. If they'd got the calls right maybe the lads would have been lifted 2nd half, but tbh I find it really frustrating that they weren't more up for it in the first place. There was no fight, passion or determination in most of our play, considering what was at stake.

Hi Brendan Rogers.

So now when a defender dives in recklessly, risking contact with the attacker, it's the attacker's responsibility to AVOID the contact?

Whopper.

Anyway, back to the OP: Both the Osman and the McCarthy incidents were clear-cut penalties. The Osman one looked exactly the same as the Baines one that wasn't given at Cardiff when Medel (I think) scythed him down. And the McCarthy one - words fail me. A defender on the floor drags down an attacker and HOLDS him on the floor to stop him getting to the ball - that's a pen AND a red card.

Nevertheless, from the highlights on MOTD it's clear that Southampton played better than us so it isn't the ref's fault we lost. If we'd been correctly given those two pens and drawn 2 - 2, I'd hope Martinez would still be ripping into our lads for an abject display.
