Player Valuation: £8m
First game I've been to under Martinez. Will give him time to bed in etc.

But today was boring. Lack of urgency to attack their defenders. Slow pace. Under Moyes we were always vibrant and looking for the quickest route forward.

Going to take some time to get used to this.

Thats just a plain lie

Many a time I have sat at the match bored to tears because of our slow build up play and our inability to break down
supposedly weaker teams

When you say "Looking for the quickest route forward" you mean get Jags to lump another 60 yard hoof ball to Fellaini then yer I agree

I didnt understand the lack of urgency? Can anyone enlighten me on why with 15 minutes to go do we get the ball in a crossing position, only to have 1 player in the box?

Del beat me to it.

The build-up pace under Moyes was just as slow and was even slower by the second half. Tbh the only difference I see between last August and this August is the possession stat.

I saw us beat United and Villa, then spank LOrient last August, dont know about you.

haha I probably shouldn't have named a month! We created what 30 chances, 35 chances against Villa? Some ridiculous high number and scored 3 goals? It wasn't the last time we did that either. We consistently had high numbers of chances ( I remember us going on a streak of 20+ chances per game) and we never outright demolished a team. We should've had 10 goals against Villa. We had what 20ish chances the game today and scored zero goals. Whats new?

these 1st 2 games i have watched trying very hard to do so with no emotion and analze our team as non bias as i can

now granted its only 2 games in and we are still unbeaten :)
but that aside theres a slowness to our game and a "wigan" style pass slowly creeping into our game that has me concerned

now im delighted with all stats been bandied around about us and having the ball etc but i like to see a stat that concern these stats from say 30-35yds out form opp. goal i dont think they would read as favorable

and there's pass that i ve seen quite regular in our games so far that we have been caught out on but not punished by the teams we were playing......and that is a 5-10yd sideways pass(even if its in front of our box) when under pressure

i believe even in a passing team there always an opportunity to put snow on the ball when under pressure..wigan never learned this and hence you only have to check out there A column for proof of this ...i hope we are quick learners

...similar to what I posted on the post match thread. All concerns over a number of threads.

20 chances??????? today was garbage. Tedious. One paced. No movement. No invention. Not enough players looking to get into the box. We only looked like creating enough pressure when we reverted to pressing and picked it up a gear in the last 20 minutes.

but what disappointed me most was the Moyes-like substitutions. like for like change up front when we might have a expected to go two up front. Andd then Naismith for Mirallas again. At the very least we might have expected Anichibe. Better still why not use Deloufue?

and worst of all, we didn't even stroke the ball around as some kind of compensation.

.....

Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe hearing a commentator say stats show something near that number. Might be getting it confused with last game.

That game was a carbon copy of most of our home games the last few seasons. The only difference is Fellaini didnt get pushed forward in the last 15 mins.

I think the problem isn't that it's a massive change, but actually that it's more of the same. Under Moyes our passing was slow, there was no movement off the ball and nobody was prepared to take a chance.

I've heard Martinez trying to get them to pass the ball quicker, so it's not a tactic. Perhaps they're concentrating so hard on trying to keep possession that they're taking a couple of touches and playing safe passes? A feature of Barca's play is that they're in perpetual motion and as soon as they lose it they swarm around the opposition and quickly dispossess them. It could be that they froze or that today was a hangover from the previous regime. It's bound to take time to adapt.

the big issue for me was only having one in the box so there was no point Baines/Coleman whipping in early balls now part of the reason for this is Felli's role.....he is now deeper, and Barkley's game isnt about standing in the box.....

Get Osman out of the team (Gibson back in) and Felli further forward with Barkley both playing as genuine box to box midfielders will improve us enormously
