On SSN just now, whilst reporting the story that Martinez has turned Villa down, they showed his stats as Wigan manager down the side.

Played 76
Won 18
Drawn 24
Lost 34
Win 24%

Not too sure what all the fuss is about him to be honest. 18 wins in 2 seasons is pretty average, certainly not a top European manager as his chairman has him down as.

I'm still waiting on ClaretandBlue and Shoody to turn up on here.

I think what clubs look for is the way he gets his teams playing. At Swansea he had a 50% win rate, he put together a good squad and a couple of seasons later their in the Premier league. Personally I feel if he was allowed to put together a squad with decent transfer budget he could put a team in europe, thats where his football style could make him a very successful manager.

great young manager with bright ideas, he will keep Wigan in this league, or even improve them as long as he's there implementing his plans, made up there's still loyalty within the game.

Agreed, to be fair I quite like the guy, not as an Everton manager but just his philosophy and personality, plus he contributed to Swansea's rise to be fair

He is meh. Untried & certainly at a club which warrants his record.

If he's improving them he's doing it slowly, he inherited a team which had, in the four years previous, finished 14th, 11th and 10th and reached a cup final and hasn't got them higher than 16th, yet.

He did well to get Swansea into the championship mind.

I think he's still a bit unproven. Wigan is an impossible job, imo. He's done well to keep them up, but keeping teams up doesn't normally get you promoted to bigger jobs.

He's a good manager and Wigan is probably the hardest job in the prem. Put Murinho on Wigan and he may not do much better. No squad has lost more good players than Wigan has over the past 3-4 years. With McCarthy and N'Zogbia leaving once again he's going to have rebuild his squad around a new nucleus of players. If they kept most of their players they'd easily be a top 10 side.

I read an article about Wigan in 442. Martines does seem like a class guy. When he was a player there both he and a couple players decided to live in downtown Wigan (if there is such a thing) so they could be apart of the community. Its a pity that the fans there don't have the loyalty to the club like Martines does.

Sure Wigan are in a tough position financially but surely that's exactly when you can't afford to do stuff like sell Bramble (their best defender) for £1 million and then buy Boseli (a striker who is yet to score a league goal in england) for £6.5 million.

He hasn't impressed me at all.

Win percentage is poor, Wigan barely stayed up...but I really like the guy.

Very refreshing to see a manager pay back loyalty to a club like he did, he would have lasted 3 months at Villa whereas he knows he's got a lot of very patient people around him at Wigan.
