good post, i agree, it's very refreshing. Our squad now looks about 6/7 players bigger than under moyes. yes we'd see a sprinkle of subs appearances, but we never really felt players like vellios and duffy would be given a proper go in the first team. i've always wondered if our youth players have ever been good enough to be loaned to another premier league club. i mean barkley obviously last season would have been, but apart from that, it is better if they're playing week in week out for a championship team as opposed to being a bit part player for someone like hull.

the test will be to see if he keeps faith with them when they've taken a chance and their replacement comes back from injury ala duffy season before last

I think that Martinez would think of the good of the player and the long-term good of the team, whereas Moyes was more focussed on the short-term good of the team. When Barkley made a mistake against Blackburn he was banished to the reserves for the rest of the season. I imagine that Martinez would be more tolerant up to a certain point and that he would give young lads a chance to get mistakes out of their system. He seems to be supportive and nurturing as opposed to demanding.

because moyes didn't really give a fudge about everton

I think moyes was very much into the youth development tbh. He just didn't think the best way to do it was in the first team. Martinez does seem to think more the way of involving them in the first team. However it is only Pre season so we can't really judge yet.

At least they're getting a genuine shot in games like this whereas the previous tart only used them as a last resort in the league or dropping them in the deep end in the cups.

Not rocket science but it seemed to bypass the previous chump.... good work RM, not to mention the style of play by all concerned - brilliant!

Really shouldn't of added Barkley to the poll. I think we all know he's going to make it. Just how good he will become though is yet to be seen.

So omitting Barkley I'm going to say McAleny.

If you were a young player looking for the best mentor then you'd probably choose someone like Wenger. He would put a player in to help their development even if it was risky for the team's result. He would put trust in his side. Martinez seems similar. If Duffy or Stones came into the side and were doing well I don't think he'd drop them just because a senior player was fit.

Whereas results are everything to Moyes. Performances and player development are secondary.

....I'm not sure on Barklay and doubt we will ever see McAleny back here. I suspect if we have any youngsters coming through, they are in the group that Sheedy is managing. Reality check - A change of Manager doesn't all of a sudden turn the youngsters mentioned in this poll into first teamers.

Its only pre-season boys....make your judgements when we've seen how many youngsters martinez chooses to include in his Premier League squads

Pretty sure its the same every pre-season with the youngsters gettting run-outs in friendlies in place of the main first teamers who are away with international teams or given extra time off

Even Man u fans are excited with Moyes as he also playing the youngsters.

Did we just play an away leg of a Champions League tie?

Or a friendly at Blackburn?

The type of game the "previous tart" used to happily play the likes of Barkley, Wallace and Baxter in?
