Roberto Martinez reckons Everton should not fear losing Romelu Lukaku this summer because Farhad Moshiri’s investment means “financially we can compete against anyone in world football”.

Martinez: “It’s not unsettling at all because that should be the aspiration of everyone here, wanting to be the best you can and be in the best competition.

“We have that at Everton. We want to be competing to win titles. We’ve been in one semi-final, now we’re in another. We want a good momentum and players need to be part of it. We need ambitious players who can carry our expectations.

“We shouldn’t be afraid about losing players because financially we can compete against anyone in world football. Things have changed radically in that respect. In the last six windows we have become stronger and have made a more talented squad. That’s what we are going to carry on doing. We will speak about individual situations at the end of the season but we should not fear losing anyone because we can compete financially against anyone. To play for Everton should be an honour and a privilege.”

having read the article in full I kind of like the Way he has handled it, in a roundabout way he is saying Lukaku is not irreplaceable and that we can afford to spend to replace him, sums it up nicely at the end with his comment about "playing for Everton should be an honour and a privilege" nice way of telling that Belgian gobshite and his agent to show some respect to EFC. 3 years left on his contract we should tell him he is going nowhere and put him in the ressies til xmas.

To be honest, Elliot has got a raging one on for Martinez hasn't he?

Blaming Martinez here feels a touch harsh, for example if we got £90m offered (we won't but example) we'd sell even if we had won the league

To be fair, he has been a staunch defender of Martinez in the past.

That 'Belgian gobshite' is the reason we're in 12th, not 18th. He's the reason we're in the semi final. At the moment, and to all intents & purposes he IS irreplaceable. Let him 'umm & ahhh' all he friggin' well likes - as long as he'd delivering on the pitch then that's ok until we get someone in who CAN replace him.

Martinez has more or less told the world we've got an open chequebook with this drivel. Yeah, it's known moshiri's got dough, but ffs 'berto! Clam the bleedin' hell up with this 'competing with ANYONE in the world financially' , you dopey bastid.

We're not city, we're not chelsea, or PSG ffs.
