Player Valuation: £8m
"I think the timing of the League Cup is always really, really good because we are on the back of seven weeks of very strong work from everyone and you get players who are a little bit disappointed because they couldn't show what they could do in the opening two games in the league,"

Those were the words from our manager as he discussed the up and coming cup game with Stevenage...basically, dont be moaning and getting upset about not playing, get out there and show me i was wrong not to play you! So. How did they do? Did the players who were disappointed to be left out take there chance?

Robles - I was sitting in the Park End and as the ball went into oceans of space, it was hard for me to tell if Robles should have raced out of his goal to put it in the stands? Osman gave him a telling off which suggest he may have? But apart from that, he wasnt really tested. He done well on crosses and corners and looked pretty solid. Overall I feel confident about him being our number 2 and could at some point this season push howard.

Hibbert - Hibbert is at the end of his career anyway, this was more about a bit of fitness for him and a rest for Seamus. Showed Stones how its done though...if a players running at goal, take him down on the half way line. No messing.

Jags/Distin - not much to say really, he just gave them half each for a bit of a run.

Stones. For me, the lad looks class. Certainly if he continues hes our future centre back. Feel he is just going to come in now and then. Distin is near the end, Jags/Alcaraz 30 ish so hes the future.
The good -Moves the ball quickly but the best thing for me is how often he tried to drive forward into midfield and look to be positive.
The Bad - If he 'jockeys' a player from tha half way line into our penalty area again ill personally hang him by his b0llocks. Hibbo was terrible for doing this early doors. Now he just snaps people on the half way line - take the card and the harmless free kick.

Oviedo. One of the players I beleive Martinez was meaning in his PC. For me i was a bit disappointed. Every player needs a run of about 10 games in the first team to get their 5hit together, but against lower league I just thought he could offer a bit more.

Osman - Pre season i thought the new style would suit him. It doesnt. When players are trying to move it quickly, it gets to Osman and then goes in sllllllooooooooooooooowwwwwwwwwww moooooooootttttttiiioooooon. Him in our midfield every game this season and quite simply, we will struggle to break teams down - like we have the first 2.

Barkley. Ran the show first half. Wants the ball and gets it everywhere, looks for the quick forward pass. The lads gonna be a star who will flourish under Martinez. Got cramp...hope hes ok.

Deulofeu. Showed purpose everytime he got the ball and ran at the bi-line. Will have to mix it up more in the prem but put 4 or 5 crosses in that rifled across the 6 yard box and should have had a couple of assists. The game just made me angrier than i was that Naismith came on againt WBA. Hes not strong enough yet for 90 minutes of prem...but he could be a great asset in the last 20/30 mins until he gets to 90 minute level.

Heitingha - Just go home. If you cba, just go. Again, another player I think Martinez was referring to. Didnt exactly do a great deal wrong...but did he grab the game by the scruff of the neck? Make stuff happen? Make Martinez think '5hit, why havent I been picking him for the prem'? Did he hell. Given an opportunity, didnt take it in anyway. Disappointed with him.

Naismith. Oh. My. God. OH MY GOD how unbeleivably 5HITE is Naismith?!? You dont notice so much on tele etc just how useless he is because the camera doesnt follow him. At the game though it almost brought me to tears last night. Couldnt trap a bag of cement! Makes the worst runs ever...he literally runs into the way of people every time. Or just makes pointless runs into areas that the player could never get the ball into. USELESS. Should never be allowed to wear an Everton jersey again! Another given a chance to impress. Fail. 0/10

Kone - should have had a hat trick and an assist or 2. Managing to dribble the ball around the post from a yard out was the ultimate low. Whereas Naismiths had a year and is still dog, this lads had a game and a few minutes. Strikers need a run and then once they get a goal its about what happens next. Its a confidence thing and he really so desperately wants to get off the mark he managed to sky at least 3 opportunities instead of just calmly placing them. Not to worried yet. Needs a proper run of games.

Felli - won us the match but also missed two sitters inside 20 seconds so lets not hang Kone just yet. That scuff that led to the corner was bad...the header from 6 yards out was worse. Generally though, hes just so strong you struggle to get the ball off him, came up again with a winning goal. I dont want him to go. I think a midfield of hmi and Barkley + 1 other (not osman) could be amazing for us.

Coleman - probably the least hes been in a game or impacted a game in about 18 months. But the lads our first choice RB by a mile and rightly so.

Overall - really disappointed that the senior players Martinez was talking about just didnt take their chance. The kids were the most promising thing to come from last night. We could have and should scored about 7 or 8 and this seems to be the worrying trend to our season so far. Lots of possession, lots of chances...failure to score most of them. Weve got to work harder to put this right. Honest to god though, you would think we had been beated 3 out of 3 with some fans reaction. Its ridiculous! Were still unbeaten and through to round 3. Its a massive change for everyone at the club. It simply doesnt happen over night and it definately takes longer when your board give you £6M to change your staff.

Lets get a grip and get behind the team.

Longest first thread start in history btw

I thought Jonny was one of the better players and this style really suited him.

Good post thought.

I have to say I agree with pretty much all of that, the only thing I'd change is I would have gave Kone more of a bashing. I thought he was woeful and he really should have passed to Fellaini for a tap in instead of being a greedy 5hite

I agree with you. I just wont bash players after 1 game thats all. 10 games in then yer, im with you.

Just put it down to being desperate to get off the mark.

To Ara - JH just didnt seem to do anything, thats why i was disappointed. Martinez said hes your chance...and for me he jsut didnt take it.

I'm not writing Kone off yet either, he was brutal though. Interesting to see who he starts on Saturday as no one seems to be doing well up front.

I thought Heitingha was one of our better players last night, never misplaced one pass all night and kept the tempo going. If we play three at the back he should be playing in there

I may need to speak more about Heitingha. Ok he didnt do anything wrong. He was a bit unnoticable. And tbh, thats my point. For me, last night was his chance to completely dominate a game against much lower opposition - and he didnt.

Has he made Martinez think he needs to play on sat? Has he played himself into the starting 11? No, on that performance he just hasnt. So for me, thats a massive opportunity for him that he either failed to take, or wasnt too bothered about taking. Last year of his contract. Hes not exactly tearing up trees to be offered a new deal is he.

Great post mate. I was working last night so didn't see the game, so really appreciate the player breakdown.

And your right. New manager, new staff, new system of play. Patience is the order of the day.

Surely its easier to have one thread were we can discuss every player? rather than 6 seperate threads?

Thats my thinking anyway

You same dominate but in what way? He's a defender and he was picking up the ball of the keeper and playing it in to midfield, what more did you want?
