Player Valuation: £50m
I know it's early days, but if the current deal for Yarmolenko comes off on top of the secured services on long contracts of the likes of Barkley, Mirallas, McCarthy, Lukaku and Garbutt plus the young potential we have in Galloway, Browning, Besic, Ledson and the youngster Holgate and Stones stays...is that not the most exciting period since the mid-eighties for Everton?
For me there's brilliant foundations being laid to try and compete with the mega-money clubs, and I reckon we're the best placed club to do it this way with youngsters being developed. Most other teams in and around the top 10 either can't or won't do it this way. The average age of our squad must be starting to be one of the lowest in the EPL, and once decent replacements are made in a season or two for Jagielka and Howard there'll be a core of young, experienced players.
Personally, building a successful squad this way rather than spending hundreds of millions like Spurs and Liverpool trying to bridge the gap is much more gratifying. Despite all the negativity around I can see an exciting future if it falls into place.

I think it's a case of needs must driving on Martinez's squad reconfiguration toward a much younger profile.

He has to be fully applauded for moving in this direction though. Other managers would have gone down the route of snapping up a load of cheap and experienced pros to do a job short term for them, but RM has a vision not only for the first team squad but right through the organisation at every level.

It's crucial we have a decent season and he's given time to roll out 'the plan', as you put it.

A lot have said we're only a couple of players away from a decent side again.

A couple of bits of talent could be the difference between Europe and nowhere.

Being honest with you mate, we are one special player away from being a very very good side that can regulary compete with top 4, spurs had it with Bale, the rs with Gerrard, then Torres then Suarez, atm we have a very good team with some very good players but need that special type of player to lift the ones around him, mainly i am thinking of Coleman, Barkley, Lukaku as the 3 players that should we add someone like Yarmolenko could see their games raise 20% and make us a really special team.

if it makes sense imagine how adding someone like Beardsley or Kanchelskis into this squad would improve the entire team for what I'm trying to get at. United udner Ferguson did exactly that when they added Cantona to a young talented team missing that something special

Oh and need a new keeper as it's hard to win bugger all when you haven't got at least a very solid one

Had Martinez been operating in another decade of football I would have said yes he's building something special. How can you build now though? You get one maybe two seasons of a brilliant young player before the mega clubs come circling. Do you think Lukaku Barkley and Stones will be here in 3 years time? Obviously if we sell their market value is ginormous so we can continue to rebuild but if we want success at some point we have to do it soon otherwise these prodigies will not hang around.

it's a big core and if any one of them goes they go for a massive sum which we can use to buy two or three top class players who are already there. i.e. a yarmolenko for £15m.

Looking at Yarmalenko yesterday, he could be that one player...I know, I know, this is Everton but a player like that would lift Goodison

Back up also needed...Injuries do us bad. However, the side is looking good.

think myself thats why martinez is not shifting some players like Naismith, Osman, Kone etc, he's keeping veteran players around whilst the young lads get experience either through loans or from limited first team games, theirs going to be a point during that '5 year plan' that the likes of Galloway, Browning, Ledson, Kenny, Henan etc replace the likes of Hibbert, Osman, Kone, Pienaar, Jagleika etc at that point IF we have kept the squad together we will be looking at the likes of coleman, mccarthy, mirralas etc being the veteran players at 28-31 with a lot of 23-26 year old experienced first teamers in Lukaku, Barkely, Stones etc and a cracking group of 19-23 year olds who have came through the system knowing the way we play inside and out from a early age

Agree compeltely mate, would be gutted if he is another missed opportunity, mainly due to this time more so than any other i think it could make the difference on a big scale

Sometimes you've got to say 'to hell with it' and pay the asking price. I totally understand the cautious way the club works but as we've seen in the past, you dither, you miss out. For me, this signing would show true ambition...don't mess it up blues

It really annoys me that this is allowed to happen, Southampton had a good season in the Prem, as their scouting system seems to be ace, but instead of being rewarded you get punished by having these oil (or Suarez) rich scumbags decimate your squad.

On 606 the other night someone was saying how it's inevitable we'll sell Stones Barkley and Lukaku in the next 3 years, it's hard not to agree unless we have a miraculous year and get into the Champions League, managing a club like ours these days must be an absolute mare.

You can see what Martinez is trying to do though, if only the FA would find a solution to these clubs buying all the best English talent to be benchwarmers, if they could we would have a chance to become great again.
