Martial Arts ( follow on), what did you do.....

Did a traditional white crane Kung Fu style for about 3 years in London. Thought it was boss - but not really what you want if you're interested in actual fighting, it was more like martial ballet. The flapping lower crane block is prob not what you want if you're set upon by baddies. Great for conditioning / stretching, though - iron body stance.

It was also phenomenally difficult to do well, or at least to the standards set by the top man. Had the impression that you could spend a lifetime on the patterns and not come close to mastering them.

My Dad was a judo instructor before he had kids, so he used to teach us stuff at home all the time, but we didn't realise it was judo just thought it was some boss throws and stuff. Went to Karate for a bit but moved on to kickboxing which I enjoyed, but had to give it up (along with athletics) once football started taking up all my time.
