‘Marine Vs Everton U18’s

Kevin Sheedy brought a very young Everton XI in front of 332 spectators. to evo stick Northern Premier League outfit, Marine played at the Arrive Stadium, College Road, Crosby The squad was made up by 16 and 17 year olds from Everton’s academy apart from Jake Bidwell and Jordan Barrow both 18and the veteran Aristote Nsiala Everton played with a 4-4-2 formation

The Blues nearly took the lead as early as the 3rd minute when a cross by Anton Forrester was headed into the arms of the Marine keeper Callum Williams by the lively Adam Thomas

In the 16th minute Everton keeper James Fitzgibbon saved well with his legs following a Marine corner. On 21 minutes Jake Bidwell headed over from a corner. The home side took the lead after 26 minutes when a long range shot by Ian Latham went through the keepers hands following an unfortunate bounce on the hard pitch. Hallam Hope was through on goal but could not control the bouncing ball and the 31st minute chance went by. A minute later Adam Thomas cut inside from the left to fire over the bar
39 minutes Aristite Nsiala cleared after Neil Harvey the onrushing Everton keeper. On 43 minutes Anton Forrester played Hallam Hope through only for him to fire straight at the the home keeper. 44 mins Hallam Hope then played the ball to Forrester who then fired over.44 mins and Hope turned and shot only to be thwarted by the Marine custodian.

Half Time Marine 1 Everton XI 0

Everton made one change at half time bringing on Polish goalkeeper Mateusz Taudul. 57 minutes the blues keeper was alert to come out and quickly smother a Marine Attack
67 minutes a surging run through the middle by Hallam Hope only for his shot o be blocked by a couple of Marine defenders 68 minutes and Taudul saved smartly at the edge of his box following a run from the left by the Marine forward. 70 minutes Jake Bidwell heads wide from a free kick. The resulting goal kick went down the other end resulting in another fine save by the young Pole. On 73 minutes a long diagonal was headed well down by Adam Thomas only for Hallam Hope to fire over the bar.74 mins and Adam Thomas cut in from the left to fire wide of the post. 78 mins Jordan Barrow was fouled on the edge of the area, John Lundstram curled the free kick into the top left hand corner to give Everton a 79th minute deserved equaliser

On 83 mins Hallam Hope suddenly tured his marker in the box only for his shot to be charged down for a corner.85 mimutes fine work by Adam Thomas set up Jordan Barrow only to see his diving header wide o f the post the blues thoroughly deserved the draw toady against a very reolute Marine side in extremely hot conditions

Man of the match both Everton keepers made some good saves , Hallam Hope did well in the second half, Asam Thomas was lively throughout the match., However Everton’s stand out playewr was John Lundstram who carried it off with his suddenly exected free kick. He is definitely the one player from today's line up to expect to progress to the first team in the next couple of years

I think it's a good move by the club to play our young side against senior opposition. They might be narrowly coming off second best, but it'll toughen them up and give them an extra added edge over their peers. I couldn't be much more proud and excited about how the club is progressing young players at the moment.

Quality as ever sir. Interested in your pick for MOM, watched the u17 play Germany in that tournament and have to say I thought John Lundstram looked a cut above the rest, confident, assured and with an ability to pick a pass as well.
