Without meaning to sound like a bell end hipster, I liked it before it was cool.

These days it just sounds like you're at the barbers getting your head shaved.

Same here really. Then the whole Genre "Did a Kings of Leon" and went uber mainstream.

Skrillex seems to have made it "accessible" by removing most of the original elements, putting in some horrible cheesy euphoric breakdowns and big drops and that stupid midrange wobble noise that sounds like a transformer being dry-bummed. It's got nothing to do with dub and has lost the two-step as well. I actually saw a t-shirt the other day that said on it "IF SKRILLEX IS YOUR GIRLFRIEND'S FAVOURITE DUBSTEP PRODUCER SHE'S TOO YOUNG FOR YOU".

I'll post some stuff when I get in from work that I think is good.

Shackleton, Digital Mystikz, Burial, Sines, Whistla, Zomby, Hessle Audio, Ramadanman and Appleblim all make nice music to these ears. All worth checking out. Not sure how much of it passes for dubstep these days, mind.

Thinking about your question, Burial would be a good place to start. Sounds like Massive Attack would if they made UK garage.

Superb producer. The Massive Attack comparison is pretty damned accurate too. It's Dubstep you can unwind too and you can just sort of drift off. Although they're not quite in the same Genre Synkro, Phaeleh and especially Mount Kimbie are some of my favourite producers.

I will never understand dubstep. It's literally noise. Like literally. The DJ just seems to be pressing random buttons. As soon as it comes on in a club the atmosphere just turns horrible. I don't get it. Everyone loves it aswell.
James Blake is excellent dubstep. His music is the 'roots' of dubstep, before it got clubbed out.

Kings of Leon were still boss when they went mainstream, though. Only By The Night was the album of the year. Their last one was a massive let down though. Dubstep went sh*te with mainstreamness.

To be fair it was a good album and I loved Sex on Fire when it first came out but so did every other living organism on the planet. I suppose because I'd followed them from pretty much day one and then they had that huge surge in popularity I felt a bit of resentment towards them. Also seeing "ooooohhhh ho hooooooo, this sex is on fiiiiirrrreee" sung by a group of rough as fcuk lads huddled together on a night out kind of spoils it too.

Their first album = best album IMO

No need to have rap OR metal, people.
