Marco Silva feels let down by transfers?

Only just spotted this article from yesterday;

Some interesting quotes.

He feels confident he has the support if Brands - he's not going to say otherwise...

On that point, Silva at least feels he has the support of director of football, Marcel Brands.

“We have to be on the same page. We must be,” said Silva.

“If you ask me if I feel I am with Marcel, then 100 per cent because it doesn’t make sense for a football club to have a project and then change it because we didn’t win the last three games. You cannot do that, it is impossible.”

But the interesting bit I think is later in the article, when he downplays the panic but says players come in too late in pre-season.

“We showed last summer that we had a project and I am the manager to handle and work with the players we have. As a football club we know what the project is. And our project cannot change and you cannot be in panic because we lost the last three games.

"That doesn’t make sense. We have to work to improve to learn from the mistakes and after go stronger and work harder for the next game.

"You sign Fabian (Delph) and Alex (Iwobi) because they know the Premier League, but the other players need time to perform and adapt. If they had come early in the pre-season they would have been the solution.

"Unfortunately, they didn’t come and it is up to me to keep working with them and do the best. It is not about finding excuses because I don’t need to find excuses.

"It is the reality and all of you are seeing what has happened. We have quality and the players are working hard. We want to see them winning football matches as fast as we can because after I know we will see them performing at a different level.”

Is it a valid excuse?

Not convinced personally when you consider the squad he has vs the teams we've played and the performances we've put in...

I think Brands let him down in the summer by leaving the squad short at centre back and up front. However, that does not excuse the inept management we've seen from him for all but a couple of months at the back end of last season.

It's not a valid excuse.

It's the nature of the losses and the insipid football.

Same goes for Martinez, Koeman, and Allardyce.

Folk can take a bad run and some bad luck but it's the lack of fight that is not accepted.

We have better players than the 90s team but even today people recognise players like Parkinson and Horne as those who always put a shift in.

We don't seem able to get that out of players anymore regardless of who they are or who the manager is.

Something fundamental has to change as we cannot keep existing like this.

We are a club running out of lives and clinging to a past that only some of us can remember.

Passing the buck, signs of a dead man walking. Brands did let him down but the squad he has surely could have won a few of the matches they've lost. Out of his depth. Brands get January to produce a couple deals, if he doesn't he can jog on too

Poor Marco!!

He only had over 200m worth of experienced premier league players when he took on two newly promoted sides and 3 others who have inferior squads to ours and lost to most of them!

It’s other people’s faults, it’s the weather’s faults and it’s the Goodison cat’s fault. Just not his faults.

No offence Tim but whenever we lose you lose your head and come on hear spouting wham in a whole host of threads.

I've not lost my head. I just don't see why brands is flavour of the month when he is still backing a hopeless manager and his signings are not delivering on the pitch.

Everyone who has been involved over the past 5 years should share the responsibility. How so much money has led to such failure and so many problems beggars belief.

I want to see better. Brands job is ultimately to improve how we play football. He can't be absolved of all blame. If he is worth his salt he will have a new boss in charge over the next fortnight, and someone who will be willing to play to our strengths and instil belief.
