Manila Earthquake

Hope everyone is safe. Earthquakes are v frightening things I'm told

Much larger in Tokyo but was never really frightened.

Today though was the worst ive experienced...beats the worst major typhoons hands down.

Im on a very high floor and it literally felt that the building would topple over but thats just the shifting earthquake resistant plates under the condo.

Apparently a lot of fatalities in the epicentre where the structures arent of course the same as the CBD.

Put some vodka and martini and ice in a glass, the aftershocks will shake it up nicely.

An opportunity to demonstrate Britishness abroad.

Once i reached the ground floor I pretended that I hadnt noticed...

In fact when i was living in Singapore there was a tremor from a huge quake in Indonesia...Singaporeans evacuated the building i was in and the country shut down for the rest of the day...

I didnt realise they would be so cautious and was still in the office working throughout until someone realised i was missing...

Wasnt even a big one though...in Japan it wouldnt have merited a mention.

Today though was next level.

Seen that video on Twitter of the water garden spilling off the top of the tower block, looks proper scary.

Yeah rooftop pool...

Glad you're ok Zatman

Weve been in the wars mate ;)

Chithole is Manila, and I'm one of the Philippines biggest fans. Still, hope the lovely people of Manila are fine.

Just tells me you dont have a clue where to go here lol

Forbes Park / Dasma -- houses £20mil+

Raffles / Vus / Peninsula / penthouse by the bay -- high end bars

Golf course / polo club / Spire -- Great lunches

Rockwell - easily comparable to upmarket shopping centres in Tokyo

As with everywhere in Asia, you need to be onshore and make connections to get into the good places

Effing hell, no thanks

Imagine going to a swimmimg pool in shallow water and standing still....then suddenly theres a whirlpool thats underneath you pushing you right and then left.

Worst thing was i was on the balcony using my phone in 36 degree heat. Id been out most of the day so i thought i was dehydrated and just dizzy...

Then its confusion for 5 seconds...and back inside to comfort my petrified girlfriend and grab cash and cards before walking downstairs many many many floors.

The steps are steep and small like for hobbits and you need to hold the handrail as its still swaying.

Life experiences lol

Been there four times. Don't need a fifth.

Best thing about Manila is the airport to get to Siargao or Cebu or Davao or one of the other islands.
