I got a good reception and enjoyed reading the thread on City and its Chinese investment. It got me wondering what you know and think of Manchester City and what I believe is a kinda new business model for football.

I believe it is a mixture of Redbull Watford Barcelona and Manchester United Real Madrid some international trading companies property development firms and Walt Disney.

If we break down those business models it means the City Brand will be on products the same way United tried and the same way Redbull are doing tho less glamours and more in scale. Garry Cook mentioned this at points He had a 80 page document he used to sell the club. I believe he suggested Energy Drinks Gyms and perhaps Cars. The Word City goes well with a lot of products.

Watford and Redbull both operate multiple clubs but I do not think they have or will managed to get the scale and emphasis on youth development. i believe there will also be multiple academies even when there are no clubs in that location.

City clearly want the commercial power of Manchester United and Bayern

City clearly want to sell / trade there footballing coaching scouting marketing knowledge hence the separate divisions City Football Services and City Football Marketing As far as I can tell they have only done this with partners clubs members of City Group and the Ghana FA though China must be on the cards

Finally the Walt Disney and Property development part of the business model The Etihad Campus is more than the training facility I believe when it was first announced it was 210 acres its bigger now the training area is about 80 acres the old Super Casino site is 16 acres So whats all the spare land for and where is it all ? The olympics where planed for the area ? Our New Chinese business partner has plans for theme parks in china and connections with TV companies and people in the film industry

So what are your thoughts will it work etc

They're building a PL-themed amusement park? What are they going to name the rides? Relegation Battle Rollercoaster? David Moyes House of Horrors?

CMC's involvement will undoubtedly push CFG more down the entertainment, media rights type business that ultimately perhaps a dozen clubs globally will become.

Football is the product that generates the merchandising and media revenues, nothing wrong in that from an investor point of view but a long way from the fans who still see their local clubs as part of their local community and heritage.

Appreciate what City is doing in terms of redevelopment, that is to be applauded, but the connection the football team has with local supporters - it's difficult to see how that can be maintained.

The educated guess or perhaps more is that the area will become a sports and leisure campus So bars restaurants but crucially things like another MEN Arena and sporting facilities Rugby Cricket Basketball American Football perhaps and perhaps some sort of football virtual reality perhaps

I forgot to mention Real Madrid have Real Madrid Resort World in Abu Dhabi and there is Ferrari World they are good examples of what can be done around sport and leisure

For us of course it will, Bill says there's a queue a mile long doncha know

Development with Disney??

Could you get much more of a Mickey Mouse Club?

At the end of the day they are a small club with a lot of money exploiting FIFA loopholes because FIFA let them.

To be honest i have been quite impressed with the way city have gone about things since the take over. Unlike Chelsea and clubs similar, they have set up a clear objective and are setting out to do it. They have established a great structure to manage the football aspects at the club (former barca guys), Investing money into youth as a priority, using excess wealth (i know...) to buy clubs around the world to develop a strong 'City' brand.

It is the early stages still, but if they could turn the youth system to turn over one player a year (considering the access to talent) then surely the bigger picture is that they could move to be as big as anyone in the world one day?

Ok so the Sheik is not a fool and is exploiting any business models he can to start regaining some profit back out of his investment. All well and good but it's sucking the soul out of a traditionally home town club.

Maybe some like that, for me it's yet another indication of football moving away from the man on the street.
