Managers Martinez can't/hasn't beaten as Everton manager

We could have Mourinho and Ferguson's love child in charge, we'd still find some way not to beat Rodger's Liverpool.

Seriously though I think next season will be the season we finally do them. What they've not noticed amongst all their gloating at how we never beat them is that they don't beat us that often especially under Rodger's. That 4-0 aside its been 5 draws. Overall their record at Andield recently is quite poor for a home team think they've only won two out the last 6 or 7 or something like that.

Really we should have hammered them in Martinez's first Derby. Could have been 6-2 that day, sadly we choked it though. They are such a poor side now though even at home we really need to start putting even more pressure on them by winning derbies.
They've lost Stevie G, Carragher and Suarez. That alone gives us a chance.

They have no-one in the dressing room. We have more local lads and more old hands plus our team is physically stronger now than theirs.

There's a few players I respect to get out of bed for the derby that they have. Emre Can, Skrtel and Henderson (I hate to admit it) but none are in the same league as the ones they've lost.

Hopefully the tide is turning and we will have the psychological edge next season because in derbies I think that's what it comes down to.

Team @davek

Confident.

Certainly his early signings and action in the market look more promising.
CB and playmaker in; funded partly by Mirallas' departure. Also Lennon plus another striker would really give us something to work with.

That should be well doable. There was no great loss in finances last season from revenue and the cash keeps rolling in from the tv deal.

If we are bringing in a new experienced playmaker, is the expectation that his position will be left side of midfield?
I'm having difficulty picturing how our midfield is going to line-up unless he's planning on abandoning the two deep lying midfielders (with Barry still there and the talking up of Besic for next season.. I doubt this will happen).

I'm working under the assumption that McCarthy is a nailed on starter and that Roberto will want to continue starting Barkley in the majority of games. Also assuming that Cleverley wouldn't be joining us unless his role is going to be fairly central to the team.

How do ye see this playing out if we signed someone like Mertens?

Most likely the play maker will be for the left wing and the most likely candidate is Mertens.

We might however also get a No 10 and drop Ross back. This will really determine whether Barry plays or not.

Obviously stats aren't the be all and end all but looking at game average from last season, doesn't seem to be a huge difference between Shaqiri's impact and Mertens impact.

(Oh and another illustration of how crap Leighton Baines is ;) )

Edit: I mention shaqiri because he apparently told Stoke "no, thanks"

Baines for number 10

Its a good start but he needs to buy a keeper because if he keeps faith with tim it could come back to bite him on the arse.
