obviously the news that city are fekin loaded means the chances of breaking the top4 four are now all but gone forever, it occurred to me that assuming they do break the top 4 then one will lose thier top 4 status and drop into the pile of uefa hopefuls . at a guess i would think that would be the rs !!

every cloud has a silver lining then :)

Why are our chances of making top 4 all but gone forever?

Only if Kenwright and Green refuse to sell up to investors.

aye your right mate. its that simple really. not!

that wasnt the point anyway. i was pointing out that the rs could fall from the top4 which would be a financial disaster for them!

To be honest, Gillet and Hicks will wanna sell up to DIC or (if I've read correctly) some other Arab business tycoon - the 4th richest man in the world I think it is.

So no. I could just make the big clubs richer.

Its ok Shitty having all this money but first they have to have a squad that works well together and they wont win every game but if they do become top 4 material then its the [Poor language removed] thats gonna suffer. Shame innit ? I can see it leading to more cheating from the RS as theyre not good enough as it is and to stay up there theyre gonna have to do a bit more diving.

Agreed - Gillett and Hicks have to sell now, otherwise their asset will depreciate quickly - shame as they were doing such a good job of holding the RS back.

There's a much deeper problem with the Man City situation. The PL has become the toy of billionaires. The least important factor in determining who wins trophies is the quality of manager/scouting/academy set up. Now, if Scolari or Hughes or Ferguson want a player - they simply go and pay.

I'm devastated at the loss of the old league set up in which say Nottm Forest could win promotion, beat us on the first day of the new season and go on to be champions and win the European Cup twice. Those days are gone forever.

I don't want to be too hypocritical about this. In 1963 we were tagged as Chequebook Champions because Harry Catterick splashed £175000 on Jimmy Gabriel and two others (can't recall who they were - Anyone else old enough to remember. Coyney maybe?). But the majority of the team had been youth players with us and risen through the ranks. Then there was our purchase of Alan Ball for a British record fee. So we've splashed the cash before.

But the system seems to be skewed beyond recognition now - a handful of clubs can have whomever they want. The rest - of whom Everton are one - can't even dream of competing.

And that stinks. It can't go on indefinitely - eventually most clubs will have to fold ( or go into a seperate league) and the elite will have nobody but themselves to play against.

The only possible exception to this is Arsenal who might be more vulnerable than Liverpool now that City are joining the rich list. They seem to have built their success on scouting and an academy system second to none - I hope that we can replicate that over the next ten years. It'll be the only way we can compete.

Unless a billionaire takes a fancy to us. And I don't want that - that's not football. It's simply rich people indulging themselves.

The only glimmer of hope is that, if City are true to form, they'll mess this up. If you think we're badly managed, we don't even come close to their cock-ups. All the way back to Malcolm Allisons second stint as manager - £1 million for Daley anyone?

There's hope for proper football clubs like us - just. But I'm not optimistic.

So do I resign myself to the fact that we'll never win the league again? Or do I carry on hoping?

Thats exactly how it is. In the Pink Floyd song Money they sing the words "Think I'll buy me a football team" How true those words turned out to be and that was in 1973. Clubs have replaced mansions as status symbols now and it brings instant fame to unknown billionaires cos footballs on every back page. Whats happened at city, chelsea and so on isnt good. Its ruined football as we knew it and it will never be the same again. Its a working mans sport no more. Footballers are mercenaries and agents are gangsters that follow billionaires like scavengers all looking for a slice of the pie.

Football in England got f*cked when the Premier League was created. That's the point when doing a Forest was a thing in the past.

So you either accept the current climate or find something else to do. Those days will never be back, and have been gone for almost two decades now. Remember Blackburn buying the title in 1995? It was the same thing in smaller scale than what Abramovich did and these Arabs want to do. And as trebilcock pointed out, we did it in the 60's, so really, we are the last club to moan about it.

The question is, what do you want from Everton? If no-one megarich doesn't buy us, about 10th place in the Premier League will be the best we can hope for (since there will be more takeovers in the future). And of course any half-decent player will be owned by one of the rich teams. Will this be any more interesting than being owned by a rich Arab and competing for the best players in the world?

Never a truer word spoken. I sound like I'm spamming this forum, but I do think the forgien player cap will do the league a world of good. And I do agree, even if we were bought out by a rich billionaire we still wouldnt win the league because other will buy the big clubs, the big clubs will spend more and things will double till something or someone goes bust.

I reckon more Arabs will move in now snapping up whats left. Nothing better to do with theyre money. Unfortunately we look as appealing as Bolton and Wigan to them. The [Poor language removed] will be next then Arsenal and maybe Villa. We're in need of a ground so unless we can find someone willing to throw money round like confetti we'll be at the back of the queue.

"you'll never win anything with kids"

giggs butt scholes beckham neville.

there is not a limited amount of players on this planet. find them early enough and let them grow together as a unit.

when the game starts its eleven versus eleven.

Plus who's on form on the day. Anyone is capable of beating anyone else in this league so there's always a chance of a good possition come the end of the season.

spurs signed rebrov for big money. he did nothing.
chel$ea signed shevchenko for huge money. he did nothing.
man ure signed veron for huge money. he did nothing.
newcastle signed viana for big money. he did nothing.
cesspool fc signed morientes for big money. he did nothing.

big fees do not equate guaranteed success. often big fees mean big pressure.

Jesus, talk about stating the obvious. Why did Chelsea win the league then? Why not also list the successes?

And I don't get this "we need a new stadium" thing. What ever way it is built, it will add to the value of the club, at least on paper. So the new buyer would just pay more money for the shares.
