I come In peace as City fan I love find other clubs fans reaction to stories like this. They seem almost always exclusively negative. It is city fans belief that this money will end up in China setting up football schools and Academies and probably also buying or creating a club whilst you might worry about the competitive advantage this gives city it is good for the development of the sport

Welcome mate. That's an interesting spin on the investment. As you probably know CMC have just paid $1.2 bn for the broadcasting rights to the Chinese Super League so I don't see how investing $400 m in CFG assists football development in China. Surely they'd invest it directly if that was their aim.

Reading the press releases it is clear that this investment is a strategic one that allows CFG and City in particular access to what will become the world's most valuable football market. It is a huge opportunity for multiple sponsorship, marketing and broadcasting deals in China. It also mentions further international expansion and expansion of existing infrastructure projects.

If it works it's a stunning piece of business that will reap huge rewards. However the beneficiaries will be CFG (City's owners) not the development of football per se.

Anyway welcome to the site, be good if you stick around at least until the semi finals.

Hi mate
I think the owners want City to be a multi team global brand
At the moment the brand has teams in the UK, America and Australia I guess this investment in China will add another club to the portfolio.
I guess you will have the biggest acadmey in the world, which ensures you have the pick if the crop
A clever approach

One of many benefits in all fairness, I honestly think this will propel our revenue above and beyond anybody else in the next five years. China's a closed market, you can only get in if the Chinese own a stake themselves.

It's all ifs and buts but somebody posted a scary thought on bluemoon yesterday, if just 1% of the Chinese population spend the equivalent of £1 a month on City it'll generate £162m a year. For a country that many consider communist, it's not an unrealistic expectation if the Chinese media are only promoting one club and are ready to take football seriously.
