evening all,
i attended a make it everton event at goodison park this evening, host: alan irvine guests: robert elstone, graham sharp, gareth barry (was supposed to be phil jagielka but could not attend due to a eye infection?)
in regards to barry staying here, he said he wants to stay but is dependant on the board and how things pan out, but would love to stay here for couple of seasons. he had heaps of praise for mcarthy with his quality and playing alongside him he does not come across as a young player and will only get better with time
elstone had a few things to say about the club and the financial aspects, how we are planning a year or two ahead to ensure there is cash covering such things as facilities, finch farm, staffing costs..... and that the new tv money makes things more "cosy" in repsect to how we can operate, his words.
there is a good amount of money able to be spent to support roberto in january if needed, his words
one thing he mentioned was a new stadium and they are working with the council at a possible site at the moment, nothing has been published or put in the media due to if it falls through them not meeting expectation
elstone also described how things went transfer deadline day and compared it to how we all saw deadline day via the media, interesting comparison. with the mcarthy/lukaku/barry/gerrard/anichebe. martinez was adamant we needed barry, said baines was indispensable to the club. west brom were not happy with the lukaku final hour deal and tried to pull the plug on anichebe. mcarthy was always an interest but not a definite, that one went down to the wire, kenwright initially was instrumental in getting lukaku here but it fell through, then roberto and mirallas made it happen
he then went in to the baines and fellaini transfer business. man u did not meet a satisfactory bid for baines 'derisory' was mentioned, and that was the end of that.
With regards to fellaini they got a good price for him and he wanted to go in the end and then went on to a member of the audience asking about keeping hold of our key players and emerging talent. elstone saying we fight tooth and nail to keep players here if they want to stay, brought up examples of lescott and fellaini and the prices we got for them.. sharpie comes in and says if the player wants to go in the end there is not much you can do after that but get a good price. clubs will always be interested in our players if they are playing well
other points discussed were ticket prices being high, especially on families e.g a dad going to the game and has two kids wanting to go, couple of audience members didnt mind paying the current price for a single ticket with the current football and style but we begrudged paying those prices with moyes at the helm and the negative football.
brain dump, hope some of the points of the nights came out there, though id try and get it in text before going to sleep in case i forget some things, i am not the best of writers unfortunately!!
