Hasn't gone to training for second day in a row.

The Leicester manager says he hopes Mahrez can clear his head and return. Bit soft imo. (http://www.skysports.com/football/n...have-a-leicester-city-future-claude-puel-says)

Robbie bloody Savage says he 'respects Mahrez for taking a stand' against Leicester. (in a Mirror article)

On one hand, I can understand his frustrations at not making the step up to a bigger club.

On the other hand he should get his head down and work as hard as he ever has for the club that he's contracted with.

If one of our players acted like this (not that our rollover board ever stands up to big money moves), I'd be ready to BOO next they make an appearance.

No defending it really is there?

Well, no... but imagine you were in a job and an employer held a slave-esque hold over you by not allowing you to go work elsewhere, even when generous compensation is offered.

That's the flip side of it. In my opinion, Leicester should have sold him - but it's still not a 100% cast iron excuse for him to be unprofessional.

Well, we have not got a clue if there was a gentlemans agreement that he could go if XYZ happened, but in the absence of that, not arsed really.

Is what it is. Signed the contract recently, took the millions signing on fee etc.

Has to protect/work both ways.

Personally think that players should have licenses that can be revoked (from playing professional football+Mutu/Chelsea style compensation) for such instances. Players have too much power - the contract will be worth less than his value.

I view it differently. If Mahrez was a youth player, Leicester would have no qualms in binning him on to the dole if he didn't make the grade. Similarly, if he's a quality player, he wants to earn to his maximum and achieve the most he can - Leicester can be fairly compensated for his contract but ultimately he should fairly expect to be allowed to progress his career in the manner he chooses as long as his club isn't left completely screwed by the situation.

Like it or not, the Bosman ruling changed football - power is in the hands of the players. When a club decides to ignore that, I think players are rightfully going to feel aggrieved, especially when said club bowed down to Kante and Drinkwater previously.

I don’t understand why it’s hapenning now. Was he deluded enough to think Leicester wasn’t a freak occurrence and they would be CL every season? Should have got out after the league win. He’d be rolling in cash and playing for a top end club.

Apparently he agreed to stay for one more season and help Leicester in the UCL and he would be allowed to leave the season after.

So now Leicester went back on it which is why he is so unhappy. We did the same thing with Lukaku but we allowed him to leave even when he was still under contract.

I feel like smashing his face in every time I hear that he's 'depressed', utter state of him, if Sane hadn't got injured there most likely would have been no one in for him.

GTF Mahrez.

No one forced him to sign his contract

He's exceedingly wealthy, why doesn't he just buy his contract out if he wants to leave so badly?

Fully understand his actions, but do not condone.

He is under contract (like all empmloyees) and must honour that agreement professionally.

However the club (employer) must accept that by preventing their employee from accepting a suitable role they too must find a way of dealing with it professionally .

In this instance both parties have acted unreasonably and should now work together to appease each other.
