Those of us of a certain age will remember the Aberfan disaster, I was in Liverpool and remember it clearly on the tv, 116 children died, my future wife lived just ten miles away in another pit town, but never speaks about it. But I saw a video of schoolchildren singing Myfanwy in commemoration of it and then they left the stage in ones and two’s…it cracked me up…..

I think of this terrible sad event every time I hear or sing the Levellers song "voices on the wind." I don't know it thats what they wrote it about, but to me the song is a vivid reminder.

I remember watching on 60s black and white TV. They had an all day broadcast. Horrific.
We couldn't really believe what was going on.

Ditto mate, I was too young to understand exactly what was happening but knew from everyone's reaction it was something very sad, you just hope in this day and age nothing of that magnitude can happen again.

In 1966 my two sons were aged 6 and 3. I wept that day.

Myfanwy is without doubt the most beautiful of the old welsh hymns, very poignant.

Same here, I was 5. I remember my Mum and Nan watching the news and thinking that it must be something really awful.

I was 15, remember the head teacher coming round all the classes to tell us what had happened. And of course it was all over the news. Very sad.

Awful tragedy that the Coal Board were warned of IIRC. I often think about it. I was 9 at the time and know that everyone in that small community must have lost a loved one

I was 14. There was a minute silence before the kick off at London Road, Peterborough, first time I had seen grown men shed a tear.

Only a kid myself then, so it's stuck with me ever since.
