Losing to Arsenal...would it be so bad?

It involves the RS dropping points this weekend or next weekend, but we could be going into the Arsenal game with 4th place still a race between them and the RS.

I know it's petty and no doubt even mentioning it will spark numerous people to cry about not being a real fan...but worth asking.

We had a similar situation a few years back with our game vs Man City whilst the RS were in the hunt for the title and the forum seemed kinda split.

Stakes are different here, we have no chance of reaching a higher position this season (vs the albeit slim possibly of 4th last time), and likewise they are only fighting for 4th, not 1st.

So over to you, would you be happy to see our neighbours lose out on the CL by sacrificing an end of season defeat, or is it a matter of principle and pride to always want a win?

Don't even need to worry, this side can't play football outside of Goodison, never mind at a top 6 side fighting for top 4. Don't even need to pick, a loss is nailed on.

I guess there is 2 parts to this:

1. Do you actively want us to lose? versus...
2. Would you be fussed if we did lose?

Kinda hard to separate it mentally. It's a bit like putting a bet on Everton to lose so that way there is a "positive" outcome either way.

No, because we can't move anywhere in the table. If we had something -- anything -- to play for, I'd only want the win, but meh. I'd still rather us win but hey if it means they pip the RS to the top 4 I won't cry.

True, but it's more about actively wanting us to lose - essentially routing for Arsenal. It's one thing to say we won't win, it's another to say we don't want to win.

This would turn a decent season into a good one if last game of the season we can roll over for Arsenal and deny Atletico Bigstand a place in the Champions League. In such a circumstance I hope Arsenal bladder the meekest Everton team you've ever seen.
