The Damned Uniteds
Watched The Damned United the other night, again, and thought how alike Manchester United's recent liason with Moyes had been to theirs with Brian Clough.

Clough left Brighton & Hove Albion to join Champions Leeds United because he had become weary of the challenge.
Moyes left Everton to join Champions Manchester United as he had become frustrated and weary at the lack of funds available.

Clough admitted that on reflection the mistake he made was his eagerness in accepting the job in the first place." Leeds United weren't for me and I wasn't for them".
Following a phone call, Moyes aborted a shopping trip with his wife to meet Sir Alex Ferguson where he was offered, and accepted, the job. “As you can imagine, the blood drained from my face. I was really shocked".

In Clough's own words he said that " Looking back, I tried to make changes too quickly".
Former United coach Rene Meulensteen claimed Moyes tried to change everything too quickly.

Clough is quoted as saying "I inherited an ageing team, a side on its last legs".
Most football observers agreed that Moyes inherited a squad coming to the end of its cycle, a squad in which old stalwarts had not been adequately replaced.

Clough went to each home game being looked upon by the previous manager, Don Revie, who had given the club an unparalleled successful regime.
Most football writers were agreed from very early in Moyes' tenure that Ferguson's presence at every game, and at the club, was adding to Moyes' woes.

There were certain senior players at Leeds who were vocal in their opposition to Clough's new training methods, quoting how things had been done in the past.
As Moyes approached the final seven league games of the season it was widely reported that Moyes was regarded as having few allies in the dressing room.

In the years following Clough's dismissal Leeds United won the First Division only once, faced financial implosion and have spent the rest of their time in the lower Leagues.
In the years following Moyes' dismissal ..........Watch this space........

Best thing Moyes could have done was deflect the sun beam off that massive shield into his own eye balls, he wouldn't have had to watch the utter garbage they played last season then.

People forget Utd went 26yrs without winning the League before Fergie. Money has changed the shape of the footballing landscape though and Utd are rich, a decent manager and they'll be back it sucks.

It doesn't always work though, ask Spurs fans after last season. We can only hope history will repeat itself and new manager Giggs will maybe reach the play-offs in 3-4 years time, eh.

I really hope so, it would give me great pleasure watching Utd decline, they've been very greedy under Ferguson. just can't see it though. Spurs are perenial challengers they don't have that "e deserve to be winning things mentality."Something our nob headed neighbours never could shake even when winning nothing.

The interesting thing for me is that Van Gaal isn't affraid to move clubs. Look at his history, very successful, but always moves on. When United went for Moyes, it was partly due to a vision and belief that they have, that the manager would always be a long term appointment. Now, are we going to see a much higher turn over of managers at Old Trafford?

I certainly think so. The wheel always turns full circle.
