Anyone else entering?

I have a place and managed my first marathon end last year so this would be my second.

Training struggling a bit with injuries/work/personal stuff but also hearing lots of possible rumours about a cancellation due to the coronavirus!

Anyway only 8 weeks to go if it is on.

I'm past (I hope) just worrying about getting around and have an amazing charity to focus on and raise cash for so trying to stay positive.

Have a 13m training run coming up this morning, will aim for a 15/16m one next Sunday then have a 20m race a fortnight today to focus on.

I should add I'm very much in the category of a bloke that's got into this late in the day for purely health reasons - I'm early 40s and combining training with work and kids isnt always easy to say the least. I managed 4.10 for my first race but would happily take 4.30 now given how my prep has gone so far.

Anyone else?!

A mate of mine did it last year mate and from what he said, try not to start near the back, as you get bogged down with people who jog / walk and it`s next to impossible to work your way through them and end up stuck.

Good luck ;)

I’m targeting 2021 and hoping to get a place as it will be 40 years since I did the first one in 1981, seems like a lifetime ago! Your start is bound to be slow but no bad thing if your prep hasn’t gone well, enjoy the event , good luck!

Targeting 2021 myself aswell, 7 years since my last attempt. Just need to get out and put the miles in, like with most things the more you put in the more you get out of it.

I'm always in awe of those who can run marathons, so best of luck. I run regularly but never over 4 miles at a time...running 26 miles seems quite astounding. Good on you!

Thanks but I'll say for the majority of average runners trying to manage creaking bones and wider commitments it's not plain sailing - today I felt like a sack of spuds after 8 miles and had to stop. Hey ho. No injuries just one of those things and next week has another series of runs to try and manage!

It’s estimated that well under 1% of people on earth will ever run a marathon, so doing so is no small achievement no matter how common it may seem nowadays.

That said I see it more as a personal challenge and really can’t be ar$ed with the majors (especially London, Boston, NY) which are so oversubscribed it’s basically impossible to get in via lottery. I’m more than happy to run my local marathon or something less glamorous.. the sense of accomplishment is no less.

I've done the London 4 times and each time it was the most fantastic experience. The best advice I can give is make sure you can do 3 or 4 20/22 milers beforehand and feel ok with it. If you can you will enjoy the race, the crowds will carry you through the last few miles.

Would love to run a marathon not just the London one, just one in general. Just can’t get the fitness up and just about manage a 5k. Think it’s all mental with me. Although the eating cream eggs probably doesn’t help.

Best of luck to those entering wish I had your fitness.

Paris and Rome marathons (5th April and 29th March) now both cancelled.

Not looking good for London on the 26th April..

Hopefully it`ll have peaked here by then and the worst of it will be over.

I know it shouldn`t be the case with matters of health, but there`s a hell of a lot of money wrapped up in various ways surrounding the London Marathon - charities, accommodation, spending in and around the marathon etc, so I`m guessing that they`ll only call it off if they absolutely have to.
