Liverpool FC fans - the different types

I am in Sussex. I can almost guarantee that if i have a middle-aged builder/workman in the house they will start talking football (it really is'nt hard to tell which team i support!) & nine times out of ten they proudly tell me they support the RS or Man U. I usually respond with 'i should have known by your accent' to which they go massively on the defensive. I can only assume that the kids you see are the offspring of said gentlemen.

P.S, if it transpires they support Woolwich or CFC they dont get the job. I have to make concessions for the other two or i would never egt anything done.

I was at some fella's house in Dallas the other day, it was around 10am or something and his daughter (upon hearing a British accent in her house) came running in proudly wearing her LFC tracksuit top.

I was mortified and told her immediately to go take it off. She did exactly that and came back with a much easier on the eye blue 'Triumph FC' top. Apparently the kids football coach had drummed into her the virtues of LFC.

I put her right and told her that blue is definitely the colour!

On the fan note though, there are some bells, just as we have our own. My good friend of 20yrs is a red, we banter and wind each other up constantly, but it's just that - banter. When you find one that's ok - then it's all good.

you have a huge oil painting portrait of ossie ardiles in the style of some 19th century south american military leader on the wall in between your super enlarged hoddle and waddle photos while your lifesize cardboard cut outs of chas 'n' dave stand guard over your bust of gazza, that about right ?

They are the ultimate victims team without actually being victims and I imagine that attracts a lot of the people who feel they have to be "cool" by supporting a non-local team, mix that in with the media being riddled with ex-kopites, it is no wonder they have such fans.

Went to uni with a guy from london who supported them. Could never understand for the life of me why he didn't support Chelsea/Arsenal so it had to be something other than glory hunting....
You can't say '5 times' unless you support the RS.

Dublin RS fans are your stereotypical RS bell wipes.

Never go the match, spout the word of the cult according to RAWK, scruffy little belters to a man, and always wearing some sort of RS clobber.

I work with over a hundred people, many of whom follow that shower. My 5 year old daughter has been to Goodison more than the vast majority of them have visited the tin mine.

I never tire of reminding them of this. It creases me up when they give me the old cant get a ticket routine. A quick scan of the days papers reveals numerous adverts of ticket, hotel, and travel packages.

One thing that surprised me when I moved to Ireland was the amount of RS fans who regularly buy The Sun. "I buy it for the racing pages" seems to be a favourite excuse when pulled up.

I've been to Anfield once for the FA cup (the 1-1 which was followed by the Gosling Derby) and as a result of this single, solitary visit I have been to Anfield more than 5 of my best mates combined. Unsurprisingly they've been very quiet recently...

Liverpool's nationwide support will continue to dwindle, they had a lot of southern support but that's because from Tottenham's double in '61 to Arsenal's double in '98 the cockney clubs had very, very little success.

Now the beauts from Buckinghamshire and Berkshire can support their 'local' teams without the need to fasten on to a northern team they have no connection to.

Its basically because all the 30-50 something males are the demographic that buy sky and spend all their money on pointless football related tat.
So the media has to pander to them. Part of it is this whole mythical rivalry that has evolved into the el classico of England between United and the RS.

It'll trickle down into the next generation but they are the weak foundations of the non match going fan. It'll die out eventually.
