When i was a kid i met a guy at the local golf club who told me he was Nick Faldo, I then saw Faldo on the tv and realised it wasn't him, I now accept that i was being groomed. For that reason, close all golf clubs
Did he have a dirty big muzzie, wore leather chaps with his arse hanging out and asking to find his ball in the rough?

I loved playing at Allerton as a kid, first round ever was on the 9 hole, shot 57 for the 9! A few years later when I had improved a bit, I remember nearly having a hole in one at the 9th (the longer par 3 over the valley, about 230 yards) missed by about 3 inches.

Happy days!

I started before Jacklin won his opens, the day after ( sunday ) you couldn't move for wannabies.
Match on Sat.
Up at first light, discuss game + sat night adventures while walking off hangover ( thus good walk NOT spoiled but enhanced )
Into 19th hole to get lining on stomach before mums sunday dinner

*Storms off to fuming thread

Council... piss up... brewery

We used to play on a Sunday morning and get there sometimes an hour before light in order to be one of the first off. Often used to tee-off when it was still pretty dark - was great to have finished a round in the summer by 8.30am, go home for a cooked breakfast - magical days - 16th at Allerton was always my favourite hole.

We used to alternate weekly between Allerton, Sherdley Park and Southport Municipal, although to be honest I never really liked Sherdley Park, I never liked the soil, too much clay!

would of thought you would of been a formby or a hillside or wallasey man , 3 of the best courses in the whole of england right there ,love playing them ,

Bunking in through the fence by the 3rd tee on the nine hole course, been there done that.

Used to play them both Kirkby was crap flat and boring ( a little bit longer though ) and you had to go all the way there.

Also can't see them getting much for houses at Kirkby

The Allerton course, with the quality of the turf alone on the nine hole course must be worth a mint...sell off the grass, just run the 18 hole course...

Or

Invest in the site, turn a short ( in effect ) 27 hole course into a PROPER Open Quality EIGHTEEN
hole course.
Pitch it to the Japs ( and other golf mad types )

Golf and the Beatles, they'd lap it up if done right

Yeah LCC - invest

won't happen

See Airport

Short version; wtf.

dead golf courses walking, walking the green ( grass ) mile

They haven't got 10 pence mate. Wait until next year. They will be truly, truly crippled when the next round of cuts come in.

sad but true. If every one who played the course payed the course there wouldn't be a problem. They'd probably make a profit.

From what I remember they lose close to 1.7m a year. Also this time next year you have an asset to sell to keep another service going.

The tories have done Liverpool and Manchester up like a kipper.

Normal lad from Liverpool, bluefox - I went on to play Hillside, Wallasey, Birkdale, and my personal favourite which was West Lancs, great courses all of them, but as a youth I only played on the Municipals.

Not Liverpool council I know, but on Radio Merseyside today, they were saying Bootle Golf course will reopen tomorrow.
