Apparently they are shutting Allerton and Kirkby golf courses, the only municipal courses in Liverpool (and the two i play at). Any thoughts on this? Think its a joke tbh

Easiest way to save jobs mate. They had some serious savings to make and this one impacted the least number of people.

Soz, but probably a valid target in these times imo

When i was a kid i met a guy at the local golf club who told me he was Nick Faldo, I then saw Faldo on the tv and realised it wasn't him, I now accept that i was being groomed. For that reason, close all golf clubs

Surely they'll just be hived off to a private operator like they've done at Bowring Park?

I've not played at Allerton but isn't it meant to be mad busy? Seems odd there's not the cash there. Kirkby is the arse end of golf though and should just be sold off for housing. It would take a fortune to create a decent golf course there so best not to bother.

I bet a lot of the people at Allerton haven't even paid. I know I have been a few times and not paid anything.

Operated at a massive loss to the council for years. It was them or the libraries. Sell them and put the money towards more important frontline services.

agreed public services are under attack.

we have 2 years to go before our democratic right to kick them out.

Bunking in through the fence by the 3rd tee on the nine hole course, been there done that.

Used to play them both Kirkby was crap flat and boring ( a little bit longer though ) and you had to go all the way there.

Also can't see them getting much for houses at Kirkby

The Allerton course, with the quality of the turf alone on the nine hole course must be worth a mint...sell off the grass, just run the 18 hole course...

Or

Invest in the site, turn a short ( in effect ) 27 hole course into a PROPER Open Quality EIGHTEEN
hole course.
Pitch it to the Japs ( and other golf mad types )

Golf and the Beatles, they'd lap it up if done right

Yeah LCC - invest

won't happen

See Airport

Short version; wtf.

dead golf courses walking, walking the green ( grass ) mile

Also; I thought we had finished with all that kinda **** with selling of selling off the playing fields etc

We do get the government we deserve.

I loved playing at Allerton as a kid, first round ever was on the 9 hole, shot 57 for the 9! A few years later when I had improved a bit, I remember nearly having a hole in one at the 9th (the longer par 3 over the valley, about 230 yards) missed by about 3 inches.

Happy days!
