how can such a poor club, who have spent virtually nothing (according to Brenda) afford such luxury?

baffled

It's probably just a phantom bid dreamt up by their pauper chairman in advance of season tickets going on sale. Can't imagine anything will come of it.

Surely will be their only signing of the Summer, and only if they sell someone.

Their annual net profit cannot be compromised.

Quite pleased if this is true and Southampton get a good price for him. I think he's great, but I doubt he's title-winning material.

It's a shame really that this Southampton side is going to be picked clean this summer, the players should give Southampton another season and see where it takes them. It's not like most of the players being touted don't have about a decade at the top left in them, they're all young lads who will be better players if they stay at Southampton just a bit longer to develop before being put under the microscope at a bigger club.

People keep going on about England not producing good players but this is why we never do, it's because players don't get long enough to develop into proper players with reduced pressure at a smaller club because whenever a player does half decent in the prem he immediately gets snapped up for ridiculous money, doubly so if the player is young or English. No matter what anyone says a massive price tag hanging over a player is pressure a player could do without because if he doesn't hit the ground running it will be a stick that people beat him with. Then again English football hasn't listened to sense in a long time.

Word from down here is that this isn't a real bid.

But that is probably a lie as they are all bricking it about their players leaving!

also whats this with the whacking great offers at start of transfer window(shaw as well)?! price is gonna go up now...wouldnt be surprised if theres an auction for him now, can see city wanting more british players and perhaps even arsenal and chelsea...he will prob end up going for 30 mill plus lol

Not really bothered to be honest, if anything I think it shows Brenda up more. It's obvious where they need strengthening and a creative midfield player isn't the answer to their problems. They should really be looking at bringing in Gerrard's replacement and a few defenders and this further indicates to me Rodgers doesn't know how to build a balanced squad.

I also hope Southampton fleece them for every last penny.
