Litter

Possibly youths from outside the area who don't give a toss. Probably happens all along the coast when the weather is glorious. I'm guessing similar happens to Formby beach. Proximity to train station doesn't help.

In all honesty, without having police patrolling the area and moving them on I don't really know how to stop it.

Shoot anybody seen dropping it. Firget fines. Absolutely detest the idea of people leaving stuff about.

Seriously - how about every purchase (beer boxes, Costa etc. Having a code written on it by law so the purchaser's address can be traced for a fine.
It is horrible. I feel ashamed for any visitors to the City.
I saw last night on the news about the Jurassic coast having the same problem so it’s not just here.
It’s not just one or two people, the amount of rubbish suggests there’s hundreds who DGAF for anyone or any wildlife in the Ocean. I’m no Eco warrior either but it winds me right up.

If the government chose to they could turn social opinion against litter louts with the advertising campaigns that programmed people to think driving without a seatbelt, driving while drunk, driving while using a phone, smoking in a public place etc were unacceptable.

I suspect they're not bothered though because the majority of people who end up in government come from privileged wealthy areas where litter isn't a problem.

For many people, it would boil down to education because it's an element of manners and understanding its impact. Parents should be teaching their children.

Obviously, there'll be some people who'll just ignore all that, but you'd hope the issue would be much smaller.

Printing a code is not really an option. Asking a small business to buy the equipment and register the details of everybody who goes in and buys a drink or a bag of crisps is not practical. A touch of the police state about it.

As you (And @PhilM) say turning social opinion through education and advertising is key. I may be misremembering but I could swear there was widespread publicly funded campaigns against littering when I was younger on TV and other media and it left a mark on me. That kind of thing can be very successful as the stigma of drink driving shows.

On Monday I filled two bags in 10 minutes up by Burbo Bank. Didn't have to move more than 20m from where I locked up my bike.
I went out yesterday morning but Green Sefton and Friends of Crosby beach had pretty much cleared it.
Went for a walk in the afternoon with my kid and it was carnage again and the place was heaving. I filled another bag without even going onto the beach.
From the accents, some people have travelled 50+ miles.

What normally happens with litter and being educated to not drop it right from when you're a baby/toddler your parents educate you and show you to put litter in a bin. That then carries on wherever you go it's usually down to education in family. It's very simple but shocking how many families you see that don't care.

People are just unedcuated/lazy. It's well known if a bin is full you just find another one or take it home with you. But no some would rather just chuck it out the car window or leave it on a beach.

We are still at level four of a global pandemic regardless of what "Herd Immunity" Johnson is trying to say. The Scientists refuse to let him drop the level to level three so he's hinting strongly we should ignore the Governments own guidelines, and after the Cummings debacle lots of people don't see the point if it's a nice day.

Litter (at the moment) is mostly just a by product of Councils still acting responsibly by running their clean up squads/refuse collection/Public toilets a skeleton levels due to the fact we are in the middle of a global pandemic where Britain has the most amounts of death per capita in the whole world? Would you want to be sent to work in what are effectively plague parties on the beach or in parks?

Yes, people should take responsibility for they own crap but people aren't going to bother if there is nowhere to put it.

Wasn’t quite sure if this should go in the Ale House or if there’s a similar thread

Took the Mutt to Crosby beach yesterday, very early, and the litter from the day before was shocking and very sad to see.
Beer bottles, BBQ trays, plastics, you name it.

What can we do to stop it?

Set up a community group and go out there and pick the rubbish up? Sadly there'll always be the odd idiot, but hopefully a bit of community spirit might shame the litterbugs.
