Linekar crying about about teams withdrawing players form U21 Euros

I wonder how much of a say the players have in this. You could understand a youngster not wanting to play with the U21s if he's an England first team regular.

Problem is not down to the 21s but the whole national set up.

If under 21's bar the exceptional were kept there to garner a little success lower down then the whole set up would improve as a result. So if barkley stirling and the like were still down there, with under 20s and so on in their divisions then they would be in much better standing world wide.

An example of a step up player would be kane, clearly outscoring most others so they would step up as long as their form shows it.

He's being a complete un utter tit.

The bizarre notion that by playing over aged players (Which Barkley would be as an over 21) at a younger age to win tournaments doesn't stack up. Elite sport is about pushing players to play over and above their natural level. They will learn more form being with the full team than being held back.

It is ironic that those who complain about academy under 21's football, players not being given enough game time in senior teams are the same ones who want to prevent younger players being involved in the men's team and favour sending them off to play more under 21 football.

Lets put it this way, would anybody here advocate dropping Barkley, Stones from the first team to allow them to win a trophy for the under 21's? It's absolute madness.

The final point I'd make is there is a typical uneven approach to this which does my head in. The article states that while Everton and Spurs will come under fire regarding Kane and Barkley, Sterling should be left out as he's played enough football already. It kind of sums up the knobheadness of team "ingerland" supporters. Their social base is home counties [Poor language removed] who support Reading and Liverpool/Manchester United. They are quite happy to slag off the less fashionable clubs yet when it comes to their own teams players they go very quiet. It is a back door attempt to attack clubs like ourselves and we should have nothing to do with it.

If you Berkshire beauts don't get to watch Ingerland youth team win a tournament while they sip pims on the lawn they'll have to find another meaningless obsession like Rugby Union of tennis. That's fine of course but leave my club out of it.

I would take Kane because he's a recent graduate and has featured in u21s up to now. Ross needs a rest and a full pre-season after last year's WC and subsequent injury! I couldn't give a rats ass about Sterling

Yeah... I understand his point, but come on, lets be reasonable.

Barkley and Sterling have combined, nearly played double the Full Internationals, than they have U21s (25Full - 13 u21), what will they achieve by doing that? Kane, on the other hand is different, he contributed 5 goals to qualifying, played a bag full of games too.

I think the lads who have been so good in qualifying, and in the pre-euro games, deserve to stay in, and yes that includes Kane, imagine doing such a good job in getting your team to the tournament, only to be told, actually... yeah, you've been brilliant, but we've got a bigger name who wants to play, so you're out. You'd be gutted, so yes, it's about breeding the winning mentality, but it's also about not crushing the hopes of some of the lads.
