No, unfortunately the god is French, and his name is Sebastien. He is the consummate rally driver.

The best driver ever, for me would probably have been Henri Toivonen.....a young man who had his life cut short in a nasty accident in his Lancia Delta S4. The took his S4 round the F1 track at Estoril, and the laptime he put in would have put him 5th on the grid at the previous Grand Prix.......5th!!!! in a rally car on a F1 grid!

After Henri, I think I would go with either Walter Rohl or Juha Kankkunen.....both amazing drivers. Walter even ended up as Porsches primary test driver.

I will give you Kankkunen, after that you are just being picky.

Go to sleep. Fecking Bully.

Good to see you matey.

Toivonen mate!!!!! Feckin' Toivonen! He was 'it' at his peak, and he was so young, in a sport relying on experience.

The story of the day him and his co-driver died is terrible. He was sick for the whole rally, inbetween stages people were astounded he was conscience, let alone walking around....then he would get into his car a post a blazing time on a stage.

Then he didn't finish one stage, the driver behind him reported seeing a plume of smoke over in a ravine. Nobody knows exactly what happened as there was no onboard telemetry or recordings like that in the 80's. All that is known is they went over the edge and burned. The only thing left was a blackened spaceframe, and this was the accident that killed Group B. Coupled with Henri and Sergio's death, along with spectator fatalities, the FISA banned Group B from the next season on. Out of respect all the Group B manufacturers pulled their cars out of the remainder of the season.

After day one, the first leg, Toivonen commented on the event:

“This rally is insane, even though everything is going well at the moment. If there will be trouble, I’m as good as dead.”

Toivonen was complaining about the car being too powerful for a rally like the Tour de Corse. He found it very hard to keep the car balanced on the road and admitted it was very exhausting. In an interview before he steered his Lancia on the 18th stage, Toivonen made a comment which would remain his last words in public: “It’s hard to keep up with the speed.”

The best thing that could happen to drivers in the U.S. (and most everywhere else) is if they made the requirements for a license as stringent as Finland's. But no, instead I've got to deal with this sh*t every day...
