So I must have imagined the 1998 blitz on Afghanistan by the Clinton regime then.

You can't trust what the Libyan leader says, only what he does. See Lockerbie, the Jackal etc. Gaddafi has a history of sponsoring terrorism behind the scenes.

Gadaffi saw Bin Laden as the biggest threat to his reign. He wiped out every Islamic extremist he could find in Libya.
I'm not defending Gadaffi, the sooner he's gone the better.
