About time, the news was getting boring after Egypt had piped down. Hopefully once this is done someone will drop a bomb on Iran or something. Great start to 2011, it has to be said. Obviously it's hideous human disaster and I hope it gets sorted out soon.

This has kicked off big time. One city has pretty much declared open rebellion against Gaddaffi and I don't doubt that certain mercenaries were drafted in due to doubts of the army being disciplined enough.

They're blaming all sorts. Gaddaffi's son is on TV basically blaming everyone.

Fact is the regime's forces went in OTT, heavy weapons (i.e. high calibre weaponry motars, sniper rounds etc) ... and killed many.

Now part of that country is in full revolt.

And the regime's well worried.

Has he got to Gary yet?

Yeah but that city in the east is like the Liverpool of Libya, so London best watch out.

It's a huge, huge worry. Something like 200 people lost their life in one day which is incomprehensible. There has to be another way than this, all this bloodshed for changing of regimes, haven't they heard of velvet revolutions?

Libya will be a huge tell. As one of the four or five most oppressive places in the world, I'll still be surprised if the crazy tentslinger doesn't just start mowing them down. This will not end well, I fear. If it doesn't go this way, it's katy bar the door. Things will get more interesting, and fast.

Keep your eye on the real reason - food prices.

He's trying to muddy the waters about who controls the forces.

The army initially went in hard. Backed off then irregular forces were brought in from abroad. Went in harder.

Now part of the army has mutinied in Bengazi.

Now Libya Gaddafi-regime is threatening consequences for the outside world etc.

This is the same regime that used semtex in a gettoblaster over Lockabie ... funded the IRA and other groups in the West.

....

They (Labour) should NEVER of released that Mcgraghie - who's still alive.

Regimes pretty much admitting they're on brink of civil war really.

The speeches strategy is carrot and stick in nature.

Higher wages etc (no free votes) and promises of rivers of blood (civil war)

Dominoes. One and then the other. What started with Tunisia, and continued in Egypt is not over.

Fully agreed, but I think you'll find it was a Scottish thing more than a labour thing. Still, he should be rotting behind bars.

I don't trust Gaddafi one bit with all this going on, he'll have worse than a Chinese approach to dissent.

Gordon Brown and his Labour scumbag cronies were all over it.

Now the regime is warning of EU and Nato forces coming in and how they would "never let go of Libyan oil" .

Oh and regime is blaming Libyans living in London, Manchester and New York are inciting things.

Could be considered an implied threat and appealing to anti western sentiment etc.

Gadhafi's Son, basically says this is all the plan of the "west" who's ultimate goal is to occupy their country..

Guess we lost the element of surprise.

This is the same regime that used semtex in a gettoblaster over Lockabie ... funded the IRA and other groups in the West.

Also the bombing of a night club frequented by Westerners in Frankfurt, which led to a night time visit of F-111's to the skies over Libya. Gaddafi better hope his memory isn't short. Operation El Dorado Canyon anyone?

Some of the phrasing in this speech will have governments all over the west ... watching right now.

this regime can do things very unexpected.

And with this sort of totalitarian regime if its on its way out, to cling to power they'll do things you won't expect.

including no doubt making this go external to divert attention.
