Certainly hope so like, there's a lad on NSNO who has predicted who has something of a track record.

Not with Everton signings mind but he has been right about some tings.

I hope it has legs, where did you see it Bry? Can't imagine him being available on the cheap, so..... maybe we know the rest?

I know he's an Everton fan but, is he really any good? Loaned out for the past two seasons and he isn't great on fm.

I saw him play against HJK in Europa League qualifiers, #10 for Schalke. Wasn't exactly putting the place on fire. That said, he's german U21 captain and so and so. Should be good for us and we'd have a young exciting midfield with him.

This is from THT & LCAB's website, this is THT's view on this summers transfer ongoings and non-doings, there's an interesting bit about Holtby, and a certain Landon Donovan - http://www.thtandlcab-football.com/ThankGodItsOver.html

So the Summer Transfer window has finally closed and for me it is a case of thank the lord ! Unfortunately, due to our financial restraints it meant that whilst all and sundry were celebrating new signings we Evertonians spent the Summer scrambling around looking for any news on possible new players and often feeling like we were on the other side of the window looking in on the party!
We have been linked with about 100 players (thanks to the press) this Summer and as per usual 98 came and went with only Royston Drenthe and Denis Straquilarsi (I waited all summer and we brought players in whilst I was away !) the only incoming players along with securing Eric Dier on a season loan again from Sporting Lisbon.

We had some real interest in players such as Charles N'Zogbia, Craig Bellamy, Demba Ba, Jermain Defoe and Lewis Holtby and with this collection of players it went further than an enquiry but unfortunately without money you buy anything!

Charles N'Zogbia- Moyes really wanted N'Zogbia but we could not raise the downpayment of £4.5 million.

Craig Bellamy - we made an enquiry but again the wages were off-putting and it was one that Moyes wrestled with right up until he joined Liverpool on Deadline Day.

Demba Ba - Despite meeting with Moyesie on 2 occasions back in May the transfer was held up by West Ham claiming that we had tapped him up. Then there was a disagreement with Hoffenheim during which time Newcastle came in and offered £25k a week more than Moyes wanted to pay him, Moyes then cooled on the deal and Ba joined the Geordies despite a questionable medical !

Jermaine Defoe - 'Arry actually made an enquiry regarding Slyvain Distin in April and again in early June. Moyesie and 'Arry had a conversation regarding Defoe and at one stage it appeared that a deal might be on but both parties cooled on the deal and that was that.

Lewis Holtby - David Moyes has had Lewis watched on a few occasions and a deal was believed to be possible but again the problem was to do with a downpayment and a time limit which was the 31 July 2011. Everton simply did not have the cash to bring the German U21 Captain and Evertonian to Goodison Park.

There was also Davie cooling on goalkeeper Andy Lonergan after a deal was in place for him to replace Iain Turner. Moyesie also asked to be kept informed over Joey Barton's situation but despite mulling it over it seems that he went off the idea leaving Barton to join QPR.

Outgoings saw James Vaughan leave for Norwich City, Yakubu leave for Blackburn Rovers, Jermaine Beckford joined Leicester City and our Spanish Wizard Mikel Arteta left for Arsenal in deal which upset Evertonians more than the rest put together !

Despite this we have actually brought in the players for the 2 positions I think the majority of us felt we needed. Royston Drenthe is a left sided player with pace. Whilst Count Stracula (sorry Denis) is a Centre Forward with a decent goal scoring record. In fact, had we kept Beckford and Arteta I would suggest that most Evertonians would have been pleased with those incomings.

The Mikel Arteta deal and in particular the timing of it upset most Evertonians but what we have to remember is that Mikel made the decision to go not the other way around. Mikel has not really been himself for 2 years and £10 mill for a 29 year old isn't a bad piece of business. It also removes £300k a month from the wage bill more importantly !

However, I believe that we engineered the way it happened by holding off until it was too late to replace him. Arsenal wanted Arteta a few days before the deadline and it was obvious that they would be back, had Moyesie been informed that the money would be there to spend then Moyesie would have been able to identify a replacement or another striker. It was simply conducted too late for any replacement to be found. It is believed that some of the money will be used to strengthen in January which should see Landon Donovan return to Goodison Park and maybe one other.

Back to the players who have come into the club. Royston Drenthe made his Everton debut today and for his 25 minute cameo looked like he could be a real threat down the left with Bainsey. Count Stracula did not get on the pitch but has been quietly impressive in training we have been informed although he needs a bit more fitness work.

Aside from the Arteta sale and the lack of incomings, the other big issue to materialise over the Summer has been the rising of The Blue Union and that 'Interview' with Bill Kenwright. I know my partner has been very vocal on here with regards to both the interview and the merits of the group. My personal feelings are that Kenwright is definitely not the right man for Everton and certainly the likes of John Woods, Robert Elstone and Ian Ross should all be removed even BEFORE Bill leaves as the club. The club is in very shaky hands whilst they remain there. Any CEO that states that they will not meet up with people who want 'their jobs' as an excuse not to engage with supporters just shows me that he has not really got a clue about what is going on. Therefore, the fact that a group of Evertonians wants change and wants to do something about the situation should be applauded to a certain degree.

However, and it is a big however, unless there is a clear strategy and some definitive answers as to who will replace the board or how we can achieve and perform better than we are, then any protest can just turn into a witch hunt ! I am not into burning people at the stake for the sake of it (I am not saying that this is what Blue Union represent) but I would like hear some clear strategies from the protestors as to how we improve the situation if they get their wish and Bill is replaced. Do they have people who want to buy into the club ? Do they have an interim board in mind which is responsible for selling the club ? Both these points are massively important for any progression if this protest and dialogue are going to mean anything.

However, it was good to see the supporters get behind the team today and create a good atmosphere. As for the game, I thought we were excellent at times with some great flowing football but let ourselves down with poor finishing and awful defending for both Villa goals. I have lost count of the amount of times we do not close the ball down on the edge of our box , and the fact that we do not stop crosses into the penalty area still baffles me.

Rodwell has to get out to Petrov quickly the minute the Bulgarian receives the ball. That is not taking anything away from the strike by Petrov which was exceptional but if Jack gets there quickly he cannot line the shot up. As for Tony Hibbert not getting tight on Albrighton was criminal. As the ball is passed wide to Albrighton Hibbert should be straight out to block the cross but just stands his ground and allows him to cross the ball which to be fair Distin should have cleared anyway. Saying that the players I have highlighted all had a good game but we need to cut out those mistakes for future games.

So I finish this piece by saying that I am glad that we can concentrate on Football for the next few months and not who may come in or who may leave. January will bring all that back to the fore but for now let's just enjoy the football.

THT.
