Level Playing Field?

Player Valuation: £70m
Is the Premier League becoming more of a level playing field?

We have an outrageous injury list, and if 75% of those players were playing throughout the season, I honestly believe we would be up there challenging the top 4.

United are not as good as last season, Arsenal just don't seem to be consistent enough, Liverpool are being found out, it's only Chelsea who are looking like serious title contenders, and they've lost their fair share.

City are proving that 200m doesn't buy you success. Spurs are beatable, as are Villa.

Majority of players are now going think twice about the Premier League because of the high tax imposed on them, so investing in young talent, and not necessarily superstars, will reap benefits.

I say we leave this season as an extra pre-season spell to get our players back. Obviously get ourselves safe from relegation, but not having Europe will not harm us as much as we may think.

If players like Torres will stay with a Champions League less Liverpool, then I'm sure we can maintain our squad.

Title within 5 years - mark my words - it will happen, and I want this time to be noted as such.

Yes. If RVP hadn't got injured it would be Arsenal v Chelsea for the league, Man United, Spurs, Villa and City for top 4. The reassuring thing for us is that almost half the league is utter, utter dross. It's just there aren't really any whipping boys this season so it looks like everyone has improved.-

Good post till that last bit about winning the title :P

Although yeah you're right, things are starting to even up a bit. The top clubs have weakened and the chasing clubs have strengthened (apart from us due to injuries etc).

Which is good to see. Gonna have to change a hell of a lot more though before its a true even playing field what with the Champs League being thr golden land.

It just makes it all the more wrenching that this season would have been ideal to play like we did the past couple of seasons.

Yeah so a full bill of health and one or two new squad players and we could up there challenging. Confidence would breed confidence like it did in 85.

Arsenal and ourselves will be fighting it out for the title in 2014/2015.

Hahaha no in all seriousness, i mentioned in a previous post, we may be looking to right this season off and start a fresh next season. We have great young players coming through and a great team when fully fit. We just need a section of our fans to look longer term rather than in the short term

Let us be under no illusions, City have spent and will spend again, and again. The Chelsea ban fiasco has yet to be resolved so real movem, ent could be seen there. ManU have dead wood to become rid of, and then adequately replace, seeing as the Ronaldo money has not been spent* and the position not addresed. Our lovable, wonderful, innocent as the pure driven snow neighbours are looking a little shakey, where is the Northwest heart in that side that gives a toss - now and in two seasons. And the fat Andrew Sachs is on board for the long haul. Justice indeed. Villa and Spurs have stepped up, but who else has addressed the gulf in class? Brum are being hailed as amazing, but they are ordinary. Fulham are a good unit now under Hodgson, but he is getting on and they do not spend anything like proper money season on season to bridge the gap their stadium stunts them, let alone keep up with the top end. Lets see Sunderland next season when Jones and Bent are given a bit more respect. And from there, currently, it is an Abyss. We are lost in our own (abyss) a problematic summer along with £40 mill + worth of talent out for us at any point this season. That said, which other side has had 4 draws at 'the bridge' in the last four seasons in the league?

Same [Poor language removed], different season to be honest.

2 seasons ago when we were in the top 4 for majority of the season, games towards the tail end after the Florentina defeat that we should've won, we lost and finished 6th I think.

Last season was the same.

This season is even worst due to injuries.

But untill we stop selling to buy, we reached our peak last season.

Also worrying is the possibilty of our so-called better players getting itchy feet after this season. I feel this could be a watershed season. If we could have built on last seasons relative success then we would in my opinion be up there challenging. Also has Davey taken us as far as he can with the club in it's current situation.?
Time will tell.

The only players im worried about at the moment are Saha and Pienaar, I think we should retain the bulk of our players, most of them have long term injury doubts anyway, i.e Arteta, Jags, Yakubu, so its not like Clubs will be falling over any of them in the Summer.

Clearly this season should be written off, hope for some Cup Runs and get as far up that League as possible, but we need to plan NOW for next Season, hit the ground running and smash teams everywhere.

i have to agree mate. A few years back No-one could beat Arsenal for love nor money and they went a whole season without losing,

but now everyone beats everyone....and there is not a lot in it.

What is not a level playing field though is the money involved. Some teams are 'considerably richer than us', and it makes transfers, wages, contracts and managers difficult for other teams.

On the pitch, take away the player names, club shirts, and history and you'd struggle to say which team was more dominant. Imagine an Alien watching Fulham v Man-U. he's gone home with a Fulham scarf...:D

We are only half way through the season, how can we write it off?

If we get the team playing for 90mins like the 25 mins we played against birmingham not many teams will live with us. If we can put together a run of results 6 or 7 games we will be back in the mix, with fa cup and europa still to play for.
I really believe we have the players to beat any team on our day, we just play the wrong tactics.
The teams potential excites me, the coaching staff doesn't.
