A lesbian couple is using Facebook to find their "dream" sperm donor.

Ashleigh Habgood and Alley Williams said a “serious sperm shortage” in New Zealand meant it took 18 months to get to the top of the list, with a choice of only three donors “if you’re lucky".

So the couple - who have been best friends since they were 15 and married in January - issued a long Facebook appeal, detailing their requirements.

They said the ideal candidate is a “cool dude” who is taller than them but is not interested in being a full-time "daddy".

The list of qualities they are looking in their ideal man includes:

  • Intelligence
  • Unwillingness to be a hands-on dad
  • A clear medical history
  • Tall
  • Under 45
  • Not white
  • Athletic
  • Creative
  • Curious
  • Successful
  • An All Black rugby fan
  • An amazing lover
  • Own a sweet kids clothing label
