Given that people say Leicester only won the league due to the top sides having an off-year could the same be said of Chelsea?

I think hats taking a lot away from City. Them and their manager are maximus bellendius’s but theyre pretty good at kicking a ball about

in 2015-16 outside of Villa the prem was decent top to bottom and LC only had 3 losses. plus LC had the 3 best players in the prem that year.

I'm not talking about Manchester City. City are probably the best side I've seen in the Premier League. Certainly up there with Chelsea of 04-06, Arsenal of 2002-04 and United of 99-01 and 2006-08.

Yup fair one, totally misread your OP that’s my bad.

I think it’s a good shout, some of the bigger teams ie United and City were in transitional phases, Spurs were good but not that good and a few others underperformed

No they didnt, but they did have the advantage of no European football. As did the rs, which helped them get in top 4.

Chelsea last year were a very good team. They didn't have Europe and more importantly (and like the Foxes the year before) they had very few injuries and were able to name an almost unchanged side every week. It has to be said that they did get 93 points (2nd all time) and 30 wins (most ever in the Prem).

The Foxes had an incredible run. Their players almost universally played above their long run skill level, they had very few injuries and based on the games I watched, a fair bit of luck at times as well.

In my opinion, how the teams won the championship are more different than the same.

I seriously think Spurs 15/16 and the RS 16/17 missed the boat on winning it. It’s doubtful either will get a sniff if Mourinho and Guardiola stay in post for a long time.

They had a window in which to win it between Fergie retiring and Mourinho/Guardiola and in that period Pellegrini won it, Ranieri won it and Conte won it in a debut season. Liverpool have had Suarez Coutinho Sterling Sturridge Firmino Salah Mane, Klopp coming in with time to settle, seasons of no Europe, and they still haven’t done it. Equally for Spurs, Pochettino and Kane losing out to some of those teams. They may look back and rue not winning one.

they might have a shot (hopefully not for 1 of those clubs). Spurs can afford to pay Kane. All the RS has to do is hold onto Salah and bring in a keeper and CB. There are no more players on Manchester B (I mean Arsenal) that either of the Manchester clubs would want. ManU might even have a better record than their talent this year and I could see them taking a step back. I don't think either of them can overcome MC if Aguero stays and/or stays healthy tho. The bottom 13 also have to improve to take a bit more pts off the top 4 too. Chelsea might be losing Hazard and Abramovich doesn't seem like he wants to get into a spending war with MC.
