I've had to self isolate recently as my housemate testing positive. I've followed all the rules but now my employer is requesting a test result from my house mate. Something he is not going to give as it's a breach of the data protection seeing as he doesnt even work for the company.

Can anyone advise if this is normal practice?

I'm no legal expert but there's no way on God's green earth that a company can demand the medical results of a member of the public.

Or stroke a deal. Gand over the info then have your flatmate sue your employer under data protection.

Then get sacked.

UK law is mainly there to protect business and the establishment unless you're enormously wealthy.

How does your employer know you have to self isolate? Is he checking to see your not just blagging time off?

Personally if I was your house mate, if it helps you I'd give them the results.

Be careful trying to quote laws as you can get yourself into more trouble then its worth.

I think it’s fair of a company to request some sort of proof otherwise it could easily lead to people thinking “here’s an easy way of getting 2 weeks off work”. I know a ton of people personally that would do this.

A screenshot of the app or a text message from the track and trace should suffice.

Yeh that’s all you need. Obviously it seems at first OTT but they won’t want people flaunting any loopholes to get free time off either. My company requires proof for example. Same as if you’re on long term sick needing a doctors note.

you could refuse, get sacked and take them to the cleaners with a nice payout
