Can anybody here speak different languages? I am trying to learn Turkish, I found a website which teaches you and there's different subjects covered, it's structured very good as well. The only thing is its hard to teach yourself. I'm reading over it and I'm not taking much in. Do you have any methods you use to learn something? It's crazy the way a baby could pick this up a lot faster than an adult. I'm hoping to be fluent in 12 months. Is this possible?

Well, I'm Bulgarian and know English, bits of German, and a few things here in there in a few languages.

I will try to learn German more tbf, and my mum lives in Greece so I want to know a bit of that, but only know how to say "hi" basically. Related: I can read Turkish and I've been there, but can only say "hi" and "thank you". Hard-ish language that.

I'm teaching my girlfriend Bulgarian (she's English), and the method we use is just starting with basics. I started by teaching her a few simple things and then she started picking up the words herself when I was talking to family and friends and now she knows how to say quite a few things. The first thing I taught her was the alphabet, so now she knows how to read quite well and just asks me to explain what things mean, as she knows a few words herself, if that makes sense.

Just take it slow I guess, like!

afternoon duality how are you today mate.

It is easily the worst habit us Brits have. We are sooo crap at other languages. But when there is not one decent song that has not been written in english, who can blame us really?

If we talk slowly and loudly all the foreigners understand us anyway. Maybe they should learn English, we've been visiting these countries for years so they know we're coming back every summer, yet they make no effort to learn English.

Haha!

I always remember the word Ickbein (or however it's spelt) from a german porno I watched, it put me right off as they kept saying it so aggressively. No idea what that word means.

But yeah, good luck anyway Mick, I think you've picked a tricky one to learn.

Why Turkish?

I usually find that shouting words whilst using exaggerated mouth & hand movements & using a cod accent of whatever language you're trying to converse in, generally does the trick.
