Dublin city are gone, went belly-up in 2006, they were formed after a split with home farm everton, they were called "home farm fingal" at first, then changed their name to Dublin city, it's a funny old game over here, while the football clubs here are (slightly) "professional", they haven't got 2 beans to rub together, while the GAA, who are amateur, are one of the richest sporting organisations in Ireland. If anyone is ever over in Dublin for the weekend they should try an take in a game, there's always at least one of the Dublin clubs at home, (st. Pats, bohemians, shelbourne, shamrock rovers,UCD,) most games are on Friday nights, stadiums (if you can call them that) are very old school, except for shamrock rovers who have a relatively new all seater stadium. The football is not the greatest but it's honest and gritty. Put it this way, it's a Good Friday night out, footy and a few beers, can't complain.

Sligo Rovers have played nice possession football for past few seasons.
There are some half decent young players in the league who'd be worth a punt, similar to Coleman.

Do you think moving to summer football has improved things?

Nah, hate summer football, we should go back to winter time, I miss the bovril!!!! Lol! There's plenty of good games and plenty of good footballers, sometimes it all goes missing in the kick 'n' rush style of some teams, I know what your saying about Sligo Rovers, they do play a good style of footy, most in fairness try to,if anything it's the same as other countries with similar populations, some good games, some bad games. Dare I say it......it also happens in the bigger leagues.

Is your LOI team playing tonight thirdmantackle?..............sorry dholiday, had to do this to make it 18 posts!!!

We can't watch it over here sadly

I think Premier Sports used to show it but they don't anymore

Cork City are my team, based purely on the fact that I have family from there (Both my grandads)

I'd support Kerry if they have a team (As one of Gran's was from there), but they don't, so Cork it is

Thing about league football in Ireland, it is very much centred on 'garrison towns'. towns that had military barracks in the past - Sligo, Athlone, Galway, Longford etc and Dublin, Cork etc

There are a huge number of junior clubs playing week in week out in rural Ireland, for alot if the players Gaelic football and hurling are their mainsports eg Coleman until he went to Sligo. Coleman's huge advantage was he was an athlete already, due to all the sport he played. Similar to Kevin Moran, Kevin Doyle, Shane Long
