Bluerover

Player Valuation: £60m
Opening match this evening saw Rovers - League Champions v Dundalk -FAI Cup Winners in the President's Cup.

Pretty even 90 minutes ended 1-1, then it was 3-3 after 5 penalties each. Sudden death saw Dundalk score and Rovers miss.

So, first bragging rights to the Lily Whites.

The League starts next Friday.

watchloilive.ie offers a package of 60+ games for €59 up to mid season break. You can choose which games you want to watch every week.

I haven't subscribed yet, but seems great value.

Problem is my wifi reception is poor for live streams (including tonight - I watched the penalties in the garden tonight, holding my mobile modem up in the air with one hand and laptop in the other !! :D ).

Ah well, hopefully an early wake up for the Hoops!!

My mate took me to Bohs October’19 , feels like a lifetime ago , so I’ve adopted them . I’ll have to see if there’s any games I can stream.

....rriiigghtt!

Rovers v Bohs rivalry (Southside v Northside) is probably the most intense in the LOI. We agree to hate everything about each other !

Mind you, everyone really loves beating Rovers even in our famine years of the 70s, most of 90s and noughties.

I’m sure you and I would agree we’d never hate another Blue :). My mate’s a kopite from Andersonstown , he came to study in Liverpool and moved to Dublin 20-odd years ago. Dalymount reminded me of Goodison, tucked in amongst the houses and we had a good laugh in the bar in the ground (with another kopite mate) so I’m keen to get back when we can.

Try and get Philly McMahon 's autobiography. A brilliant, inspiring read. He has been brilliant for Dublin Gaelic Football team for past decade and more.

His late Da was a Republican from Belfast who was on the run, and settled in Ballymun in Dublin - very tough area then.

Philly explains in the book that his Da made it clear there was no choice when it came to English soccer.

I met Philly at a management seminar at which he was, by general agreement,
the stand out speaker in terms of inspiration. He signed my copy of his book which of course I had brought with me and was delighted when he realised I was another Blue.

I diplomatically avoided asking who he supported in the LOI - Ballymun is very much Northside!

Sadly his older brother died of drug abuse - Philly emphasised that only for his involvement in GAA he could easily have gone the same way.

RTE have dropped Soccer Republic the highlights package. You can stream most games on watchloi.ie but its a paid service, good value imho.

Bray have made the usual raft of new signings this year but the 1st Div is going to be tough this season but I'm hopeful. Athlone Town have signed half of the league - we'll see what happens there later in the season. You'd expect Cork to be tbere or thereabouts. Galway under John Caulfield will go well.

We've got Treaty Utd up first at home - hard to know what they'll be like.

i will let him find out himself. Hopefully ye bounce straight back.
Toughest 1st division since we were last down there in 2011. $hels have spent a fortune again, chequebook John has around 50 new signings in Galway, Bray will be in or around it again, Athlone dark horses having spent a lot as well and ourselves who while young are underestimated as 9/1 shots. Only one going up automatically makes it really really tough. $hels and Galway will both expect to go up based on expenditure

After Limerick city going to the wall there is a new club to come into play. Treaty United have formed and admitted into div one. Effectively taking over from Limerick as the club of the city. Signed a lot of local players from this area inc lads from Co Clare and Tommy Barrett is the manager ( previous limerick manager ).
Big drive in social media to get behind the club. Membership etc is 20 euro a month and there has been a great response from the City.

I was going to sign up but one fatal error. They play in Red.....and seriously it has held me back.
Not joining ,will go and watch them, will not be buying any merchandise, will shout for them, but support them. . . 50 years of not supporting Red football teams, big ask !!!.

Decent opening couple of games tonight. Kevin Sheedy will be gutted to have lost at the death to an o.g. Too early to glean anything from today but Waterford didnt look great.

Rovers probably shaded it against Pats but got out of jail really. It was an enjoyable game - Pats looked dead on their feet before they scored.

Cant wait for the 1st division to kick off now
