Carl O'Ancelotti

Player Valuation: £20m
Kicked off tonight with champions Dundalk under new management opening the defence of their title against Sligo Rovers.

Having dominated the game and missed a host of chances including a pen they find themselves 0-1 down at half time.

Will be interesting this season to see if they still have the same resilience to get them over the line in games as they had under Stephen Kenny.

Rovers come from 1-0 down at HT away to Waterford to win 2-1.....winner 3 minutes into injury time.

Excellent start to the new season!!!

Not a good start for the 2 favourites then.

Not sure how Dundalk didn't win, maybe down to early season rustiness in front of goal. They missed loads of chances but Sligo were always in it.

Inspired display by McGinty in the Sligo goal. I think it'll be tough for Vinny Perth, lot of egos at Dundalk. Pats could be a factor this season, some quality signings.
Pats were awful Friday, should have been 3 down before they scored. City were worse 2nd half, Caulfields refuses to trust his players and let them play and the whole thing will turn during the season. He had his first run in with fans on Friday night, but I can only see it ending one way.

I think he is an awful manager who sets his teams up to play awful football. The management committee at Dundalk, I think, should present Cork a decent chance at the league, admittedly they've a lot of player changes to settle in.

Your right but I fear the quality of player we have brought in will leave us a long way behind unless one if the English lads turn into another Seani. Home to Waterford next Friday is a big game already and it's only the second of the season. If we don't win the pressure will be big already, especially with the budget being so closely linked to on field success and big attendences. The failure to start well has the potential to have far reaching consequences
