It's a minority sport in this country but not in mainland Europe. I think I'm right in saying its the largest spectator event in the world, or certainly up there. It's not uncommon to get several hundred thousand people watching each stage. I agree that the sport suffers a lot from failed tests, but I think that's in part because the testing is more rigorous than other sports.
 

The Giro has been fantastic so far, with drama happening pretty much every day. Wide open so far.

Add to this the shitstorm that Landis has thrown up this morning and its been an eventful 24 hours in the cycling world. This could well see the world of Lance come crashing down.
 
Obviously there is little proof to speak of, but the fact that nearly every leading rider from that era has been busted, several of his team-mates amongst them, and that he could spank the behinds of these assisted riders doesn't suggest he was above board to me.

Anyway, overlooking all that, this years Giro has been bloody marvelous. Superb racing nearly every day so far, and with arguably the hardest rides still to come in the final week this is set to go down as a real classic.
