Last minute holidays

Am looking to go away on holiday in a couple of weeks, pretty last minute decision. there's a few decent hotels on tui etc... at the moment but we're thinking of leaving it proper last minute and booking a couple of days before, has anyone got experience of doing this and if so is it viable and sensible? Can you really get a great deal the later you leave it? Worth mentioning the week we';re going coincides with the second week of school half term I think which isn't ideal but can't see many schools having 2 weeks off.

Haven't done it much tbh but we booked a holiday in Tenerife a couple of weeks ago 4 days before we traveled (with TUI) when we got there the hotel was great for what we paid etc so out of interest we looked at prices the year after for the same week. It was over 50% more expensive in 2019.

Tenerife is hot all year round and is bound to have some excellent late deals

I always remember teletext used to be good for late holiday deals, not even joking!

Did this on my own to Barcelona years ago, but I was travelling solo and stayed in hostels. Dunno how much cheaper it was compared to usual, but was half term week, and not too expensive as I recall.

Tbf, it's set to be 23deg tomorrow where I am, and I think it was 24 on Weds. Don't mind that in Oct. Was in shorts and t-shirt around the house last night!
