Thing about that is everyone on GOT could pool their money together to come up with the cash needed to float the wages of the MLS. Average player makes $35K or something crazy like that.

That's 35k / year! But that isn't the average. That's about the minimum they can pay a player.

The player minimum is $12K/year, which is less than miminum wage. In fact I think about 5-6 Dynamo players sleep in Tx's basement.

Young players on minimum contracts tend to stay with "host families" in higher priced regions like New England -- the minimum contract is literally too low for 2 or 3 mates to find an apartment together.

I am answering Rook's post. Anyway, I think that you are right. Although I have not seen any below $17,000. In Wahl's book, "The Beckham Experiment", he lists the Galaxy salaries. They go from millions for Beckham, next Donovan at $900,00, and then a big dropoff. Several that only make $17,000. Lots in the 35-85 range, if I remember correctly.

Funny thing is, if you google the salaries of the 2009 Galaxy, then the ones online that pop up are different, and higher than in Wahl's book. (Not Donovan or Beckhams, they were the same. Maybe he used the 2008 salaries).

The salary thing was one of the issues that Donovan had with Beckham, before they patched things up. It was not how much Becks was paid, but that when, on the occasion that Beckham attended a team dinner, that he did not step up and chip in for those players that struggled just for gas money to get to the field in LA, and that he was the captain. The world that Beckham traveled in and was used to, was vastly different than the world inhabited by all of his teammates. Donovan did not understand why Beckham did not "get" it.

Anyway this is a great interview with Donovan about the difference between the MLS and the EPL.

I AM serious. A $20 donation is like what, a weeks wages for some of the players.

In LA that is gas money just to get to the field! MLS players are poorly paid because the league has money only for the superstars that they hope attract fans to the field.

So here's a question: does the loan fee for Donovan increase if his loan spell extends due to MLS players strike, or was it a static fee for an elastic period of time?

I'm guessing it will have to be renigoiated. Unless its considered a lockout which then they'd have negoitate with Landon.

My knowledge of labor laws is pretty much non existant though.

You are right it is 17K or 17.5 now not sure. At least some of the player might be able to trade up their cardboard box for a 1980 Chevette to live in now.
