Udderly delicious
Football fans will be given a new right to representation on their club's board and the chance to buy up to 10 per cent of its shares if Labour wins the general election.
Under the proposed new laws, supporters' trusts would be able to appoint up to a quarter of their club's board in an effort to ensure their voices are heard by owners.

Smacks a little of opportunism following the BBC report of pricing? Or a good thing?

Bully Wyness was having a go at Andy Burnham on Twitter saying Politicians should keep their noses out of Football.

Out of him an Andy Burnham I know who I'd put my faith in, and I'll demonstrate that by voting for him in the next General Election.

It's a nonsense. Supporters trusts at clubs outside the PL level are already in a position whereby they own massive chunks of shares - and in some cases outright own and run them. But what about PL clubs where takeover prices run into the high tens of millions even for medium size PL clubs, not to mention hundreds of millions for the CL qualifying clubs? Fans are given the right to buy 10% of a club at this level? That's going to be way beyond their means.

If they wanted to do something purposeful they should step in and regulate the industry properly. Many European countries have the sports club/verein model whereby the club is owned by the fans as not for profit members club who then allow companies to spin off from them, using their cultural clout, to run commercial business related to the club. That keeps the two entities legally separate, club's financially afloat - as commercial players have to plough profits back into the club -, and fans in control

Introducing a Europe wide cap on each team would solve it, and quickly.

Those who say players would all run off to America or Asia or Dubai, i don't buy it. Some would, of course, but many more would be drawn in by the size of the game in Europe and realise that the sponsorship opportunities and glory of competing in the best leagues and tournaments in the world make living with a 'reduced' wage more than worth it.

Placing the cap on a team as a whole and not individual players would also get around any EU legislation issues about pay rights.

Of course it will never happen, too many vested interests.

one of the most blatant cases of wishy washy no depth spineless net casting vote winning nonsense comments ive ever seen. Pure tosh.

Im not labour or tory or anyone for that matter btw
Its never going to happen and the sap knows that so why say it. Win votes maybe? hmmmmm
