La Liga match to be played in USA

I think it's good marketing to a huge market as far as the league. However, as a fan (or player actually), if you told me that the biggest home game I attend during the year was going to be moved 4000 miles away for marketing and money, I'd be absolutely furious. You would have a better argument for moving both legs of the derby - and that's not a good argument either.

It should be a pre-season/exhibition match IMO. Fact of the matter is, you put those 2 teams in any US city, it's going to sell out regardless.

It's not the same as the NFL playing a regular season game in London or such - the NFL wants exposure in England with an eye on possibly putting a team there. La Liga won't be adding a team in the US (or any other country)

i can see both sides.

as an American, wouldn't want to see the Patriots lose a home game to play in London. Other sports - baseball/hockey/NBA would be fine if a home and away with a rival were played overseas, with each team losing a home game to draw interest.

the flip is easy. how much money is potentially available.

The Prem or whatever it is now has an extremely lucrative deal broadcasting in the US that lead to a flood of money coming, with FC Also Ran and We Just Hope To Be Mid Table United cashing in as well as the big clubs. Hasn't tipped the pecking order in Ingerland, nor amongst super clubs but has undoubtedly impacted football in Europe. If FC Also Ran gets more revenue for finishing 15th than Atletico Mediano does for finishing 5th in La Liga, can you blame them for wanting in and being more competitive financially, top to bottom?

The US has the 2nd largest Spanish-speaking population in the world, ahead of the 50,000,000 or so here in Colombia, lots of cash and growing interest in the game.

The US tv market is a low-hanging fruit.

If roles were reversed and Atletico Mediano was getting 9 figures a year from a TV deal with the US (and the prem had no deal bringing in revenue), I imagine a lot of people would be pissed if they started raiding us for talent.

I also wonder if the majority of Evertonians would be happy or as upset as they are in this thread if Usmanov and his money were to be dumped into club coffers.

The whole idea just makes me sick to my stomach. Am I bad for thinking if both teams travel by private jet and get lost somewhere in the vicinity of Bermuda at least that will put the doubt into chairmen everywhere about doing such a thing again?

This is why we have pre-season games to take the product to new markets.
