We are masochists and would not know how to handle success.
This reminds me of the derby against a poor RS, relatively recent (might've been a Roy Hodgson side) where it was evident we could've thrashed them...really went to town with a merciless 5 or 6-0 hammering.

Instead, our players took pity on the red team...we put our foot off the gas and almost-apologetically scored two goals. So we still won that derby 2-0...but it felt strangely unfulfilled.

It took years until we were able to win a derby again.

For me the 80s are a distant memory and sometimes I wonder if I actually dreamt them!! :coffee:
i started following during the '89 Cup Final. Just somehow picked the blue team. And it stuck. Also just missed out on that all-too-short glory-era.

Back then i'd go on a stats-fetish, gobbling up everything about the history of Everton FC. One interesting stat around that time was our head-to-head derby wins...we were neck-and-neck. Liverpool maybe just one or two ahead in the all-time head-to-head wins. I vividly remember getting excited to pull ahead of them every time a derby came up...

...i gave that feeling up long ago.

Currently the red team are 30 wins ahead.

Something went very wrong with our heads around the time the Prem-era got going, and we still haven't really sorted it.

I have embraced the kopite-lite culture adopted by Evertonian’s.

I’ve grown quite comfortably into the whole greet the coach with smoke bombs thing along with waking up the opposition by setting off fireworks shenanigans.

We’ve even stolen a lead on them by raising family pets over our heads to greet the team. Word is the kopites are well miffed about that one, as they were planning on doing something similar but now would be seen as copying us.

So I expect to see more of the same next season including more family pets. I wanna see some iguanas and micro pigs hoisted aloft down Goodison Road.

I know we won the League in 1987 during the European Ban, but we really deteriorated after that. It was like the stuffing was knocked out of the Club, knowing we were the best in Europe in 1985 but were cheated out of having a right go at the European Cup.

We seemed to be in a trance when the EPL started, and 94 and 98 bookended our last trophy win in 95. Really been horrible times.

I’ve never been against the coach greetings, banners etc etc and find it mad that we call it Kopite behaviour. There’s always been this support mirrored with Evertonians, but I think we turned our back on it because we tried to be edgy and cool and not follow suit out of tribal instinct. Look how it turned out for us; a couple of chants and 2 songs that mention them lot anyway. The banners coming back on the Gwladys has been great in recent years. However, Goodison has been a pit of misery and boos through ‘non kopite behaviour’ martyrdom for too long.

Any recommendations for companies that can print 39,000 hymn sheets?
