Player Valuation: £8m
Juergen Klinsmann hired as the new US National Team Coach... so the USMNT ( for Kay and Bryan and whoever likes the acronym )

What you think........

I think a change is good, but Klinsmann is more of a name than a proven commodity. Not much of a managerial track record to look at. He does have a better understanding of the US setup and issues more than any other foreign coach would.

Klinsmann Hired

I like him. He's the kind of guy I wish was my grandad.

By that I mean he seems knowledgeable, friendly and he probably likes Werther's originals.

Who knows? Germany did well in WC (granted it was at home) however he couldn't do it Bayern and Germany stunk in the runup. He does have an idea about the american footie setup so if we are going to hire an overseas coach he's probably the best bet.

One thing that gives me pause is that he like to play attacking footie. Scoring goals under Bradley was never the problem. His first order of business should be to sure up the back.

This isn't a hire for a quick results. It's a hire to revamp, reconstruct and turn our youth system into what it should be.

And what it should be is a country with over 300m people and endless possibilities to churn out world class players.

The potential for the US is there, that can't be denied, but can that potential be tapped and utilized? I hope Klinsmann can do that.

As I stated in another thread, it's certainly a long-term hire. However, he needs to provide results or his vision will be for naught. I don't know that he will be given that leeway.

As soon as I read that my mind immediately thought 'prehabilitation'. It was Klinsmann that hired the American(s) at Finch Farm for the German WC effort. Maybe he can buy them back off Everton and we can buy a player!

okay before it was annoying but now its just impressive, if you can connect my hitler kitten post to the board's lack of spending i'll give you 50 internet points

I'm curious to see who he picks as his assistants. The popular opinion seems to be that Klinsmann needs a strong Xs and Os man. He'll be a good public face for the national program. He's well-known worldwide and he'll charm the heck out of the U.S. media.

The biggest potential benefit is his desire to change the culture of the sport in America - move it away from a rich kid, suburban "soccer mom" sport. Even though tons of youths play the sport, it is mostly upper middle class kids playing in highly structured, short season leagues, along with karate, skiing, little league, basketball, academic tutoring, and a million other things. Its soccer practice on Monday, karate on Tuesday, math tudor on wednesday, and so on. Your not exactly developing a Xavi-like first touch doing this.

Jergen wants the lower classes to get involved, and eat, breathe and live the sport on sandlots, street corners, and parks, with a ball at there feet at all times. You know, like it happens in the rest of the world. Than, when the kid shows promise, get him into an academy at 14 where he does nothing but play the sport, except for a 2 minute break to learn how to spell his name for the big time club contract. He wants to develop world class footballers, not accountants who can play an ok game of footy.
