So me mum is getting a new kitchen fitted and using some guy she found in the paper.

It's only a small kitchen and the total cost is £4200.

Material is £1800 while the fitter is charging £2400 for his expertise in fitting it. Which for me sounds ridiculously steep.

Anybody in the trade have an opinion on the price or know of anybody who could do a good job at a fair price.
?

Not looking for bargains. Just an honest all round job/price.

Cheers.

Whats involved mate? If its just replacing the units and sink, then that looks ridiculous. Even I managed to do mine. Well, not the sink.

But if it involves tiling, plumbing, and electric work, then it would be a different matter.

They generally have to sublet parts of it to an electrician, plumber, tiler and plasterer, it depends on what the job involves, if sockets, plumbing etc is being moved, and tiles fitted it sounds about right tbf.

I had a utility room fitted out a few months back and it cost about that in labour, with plaster, new lighting, plumbing moved, new sockets and the units fitted.

Also, how long is he expecting it'll take? Is it just him or does he have others? Really depends on what actually needs doing.

Can you break down the quote for what he is actually doing?

Does it involve plumbing, not just sink fitting but does pipework/gas supply require moving?
Will any sockets/switches etc be fitted or relocated?
Is there any tiling?
Etc etc etc or is it just straight one out one in like for like swap? (Units/sink/worktop)

For 2400 quid I'd fit it twice.

If you're in Liverpool, I have a mate who is an excellent kitchen and bathroom fitter. He could give you a quote ?

Very reasonable rates and he also designs kitchens too, so could suggest alternatives / ways around things .

Seems a lot like to me, the utter cowboy.

Thanks for replies chaps.

Just spoke to her based on questions asked ITT.

The job involves a gas fitter for the oven and electrician for new sockets. He's installing 13 new units and getting the materials from Howdens. (She's already paid for new oven and fridge)

It's a 2 man job and will take around one week.

So the £2400 is for labour for 2 men. The gas and electrical work are both small jobs but its skilled work and needs doing.

Only other work is a touch of plastering.

£4200 sound a bit more reasonable with that information?

I reckon so. We paid £5000 for a new bathroom, which seemed steep, until we saw the actual work involved.

For 1 weeks work it sounds too much, plus if they go over a week due to problems they will charge the next weeks rate. The rate we got was £800 a week for 2 man job, and that still seems expensive to me.
