For those of you wondering what this is all about, FTY and I made a little bet way back in May. I grew tired of folks trashtalking the mighty USMNMNMNMNT, so I decided to put my metaphorical mouth next to my hypothetical money:

If the United States of Goddamn America finish above England, this is your new avatar until the the kickoff of the 14/15 Premier League season.

If England somehow manages to finish above the USA, it's mine.

Statistics man @Allezfan was quick to point out that I am certifiably insane (still probably true), and that such an event had only happened twice in the past 16 World Cups that both sides had entered:

You do realise that of the 16 world cups which both teams have entered, England have won this particular battle 14 times compared to the US' 2. And the two exceptions were 1994, which you hosted, and 2010 where you came 12th to England's 13th so not exactly a landslide victory.

I mean, I think the gap is as close as it has ever been between the two countries but that's a hell of a bold bet given I think you have the much tougher group.

I dunno if it's balls of steels or just misplaced arrogance, tbh. You'd think you were Germany from some of your comments here, like.

FTY, expecting an easy victory, took the bet and upped the ante:

Always happy to support my American brothers. Very happy for Klinsmann, hope he stays in the job for the long-term. A strong USA in Russia 2018 will be very interesting!

I actually won this bet about 3 weeks ago, after England lost to Uruguay and the US drew Portugal. With the USMNT at 4 points and England only having one fixture left, it was already decided before the group stage even ended.

I've been sitting here, patiently waiting for FIFA to post those damn rankings.
